Moab / Rose Garden Hill

When I was last in Moab (Summer 04) we ran out to Rose Garden Hill and as in years past we planned to run Onion Creek back out through the creek canyon narrows. But this last summer signs showed up saying no driving in the creek. Now reading my EJS paper it makes mention of the narrows sounding like they will be driving it.

EJS paper, page 65, Top of the World, Highlights paragraph.

"Onion Creek has spectacular narrows either from the county-road route of the older creek bottom option."

That word "option" sounds to me like they will be able to wheel through.

So anyone know anything on this? I used to wheel the creek bottom before the signs went up and it was a blast.

Did Rose Garden Hill last year at EJS and the trail leader told us that we were the last group to be allowed in the streambed by the BLM. The enviro-nazis were shutting it down. Awesome canyon.

Onion Creek

Onion creek is a done deal!!!, if you were lucky enough to run it, It is/was a great part of the trail. But it can no longer be run or driven through. Keep the memories, as I have in photos. It still is a great run, but you can't do the stream bottom anymore.

The RR4W are permitted to run the narrows on Onion Creek for this EJS, it was part of our 2001-2005 BLM permit. However, it has been closed to the general public, and likely it will be eliminated from our future BLM permits. Sorry to say, but unless you register for it during this Safari you likely won't have a chance to run it ever again.

Todd told me that the reason it's called Onion Creek is because it smells funny. The reason it smells funny is because there is arsenic in the water...!! And they are worried about us driving in it?!

Damn BLM......
