Hey guys i am a new user to this forum. I have been struggling with my 91 montero in everything. I have no clue where to find performance parts for it. I tried all the major websites and parts stores. No lifts no roof racks no bull guard.

Give Cruiser Outfitters a call in regards to a lift and locker from Old Man Emu and ARB. Rocky Road Outfitters used to have a fair amount of stuff for Montero's, so check that out too. Expedition Portal has a pretty active Mitsubishi forum that I'm sure you could mine some data off of. The folks at West Country Explorers Club use Montero's as their primary form of motivation, so you might try reading through their posts or sending them an e-mail for info. And of course, there is Expedition Utah for when you want to start hitting the trail with that Monty! ;)

I always liked Montero's. Neat rigs with lots of factory features that are appealing for the Overlanding crowd. There are a few people on RME that have had them that will hopefully chime in. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the help. By any chance would you know about an engine/ performance parts place or website? And I'm actually in so cal. People don't really get into off roading out here too much

Southern California is actually huge for 4-wheeling. Check out the California Association of 4WD Clubs and find a local chapter. They'll show you around in the area you're in. You'd be surprised what is out there! I think the guys from West Country Explorers Club are also located in SoCal or there a bouts and I'm sure they'd be happy to point you towards some great places to explore. Thousands and thousands of miles of trails down there.

What are you looking for with performance parts? The Mitsubishi 6G72 V6 isn't exactly renowned for its reliability and performance buildability. It was the same motor that was in the 3000GT, though, so I'm sure that there are a fair number of people who did upgrades to those. Try and find some information that way.

I'd have to disagree on the reliability of the 6G72. I had the FWD for Chrysler version though. I gave the minivan away with over 230,000 miles and it was still running strong. And the DOHC 4 valve twin turbo version offered in the Dodge Stealth and Mitsubishi 3000GT were stout motors with big HP numbers. I will agree that parts availability in this country for that motor are fairly sparse. Australia offers fine performance parts for all versions of that motor.A very common problem with the 6G72 is lifter ticking. But is pretty easy to replace. Also, the late 80s models had exhaust valve guides that slipped and let oil into the exhaust chambers. Not as easy to fix, but cheaper than a ring job that MANY shops pushed on people at the time.

SoCal is a real HOTBED of offroading activity. Rock crawling, desert running, expeditioning... I'd look into some of the expeditioning sites for upgrade info for your Montero. When I lived in San Diego I could hardly swing a dead cat and NOT hit an offroader of some sort. Of course, when I moved to the High Desert, they were EVERYWHERE.

That's funny you are do right about the engine. I already fixed my lifters and rebuilt the entire engine. However just to find out TODAY that I have no power to my overdrive. The shop can not seem to find the issue. Anyways it truly is hard to find performance or upgraded parts for my car. It is super frustrating when I love my car sooo much.
