Montero Sport transfer case

I know there are not a lot of Mitsubishi folks here, but I am having t-case issues with my 03 Montero Sport (drives great in AWD, won't budge in the least to shift to 4H or 4L.)

Wondering if there are options for swapping to different (non-Mitsubishi) t-case with relative ease instead of either tearing it apart or replacing it with one from another MS.

Any advantages (gearing, durability etc) to a swap?
