Very seldom you can copy a program over and have it work very seldom. It could very easily be your harddrive, but with your previous power problems I doubt that it's just the harddrive.

btw, when you are doing the safe mode bit, you can choose safe mode with networking ;) It's just better to try the most simple way first.

Like I said, bring it with you and I'll look at it... do the houses have interweb?

No internet at the houses...

Its booting in regular mode OK now... but if I as much as tap the area near the hardrive, it gives me the "d-bay" warning again, so I'm pretty sure either my drive is going south or the connection is bad (I've cleaned and re-seated it countless times).

Could also be the mother board where the hd plugs in, I'll have my laptop down there, we can put your hd in and see if it runs correctly.

Just an FYI.....

We've bought about 10-12 D610-D620 machines over the past couple of years. The battery life has been a little sketchy, but overall, they've been pretty good.

So my machine's battery takes a total crap today. It's the uber-bitchin' 9 cell battery with "long life" etc. I chat with Dell tech support and they inform me that even though I have 665 days left on my machine warranty, the battery is only warrantied for a year. I'm sure that was in the legal mumbo jumbo, but I'm not a happy camper about it.

I might head back to Lenovo PDQ if this kind of service is what I get on the notebooks.

sounds like our previous experiences with Dells (and Alienware for that matter). They both (yes technically they are the same company) have the same clause in their warranty. This is why we only purchase HP (they have full three year warranties on everything) and Apples (again, with Apple care they cover nearly everything, even quite often, user neglect).
