Mother of land grabs

Heidi McIntosh's Forum letter (“Blatant land grab,” Jan. 9) is the epitome of the sanctimonious hypocrisy typical of the environmentalist movement.
She castigates Kane County for negotiating “behind closed doors” with the Bureau of Land Management about RS 2477 rights of way and counsels us that, “secrecy leads to error and violates the public trust.”
Perhaps her memory is conveniently short, but the rest of us haven't forgotten the mother of all blatant land grabs when Heidi's organization engineered the creation of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. This 1.9 million-acre confiscation of public land consumed about 1,000 times as much ground as the meager rights of way owned by Kane County. And talk about secrecy and closed doors, not even our governor or members of Congress

knew anything at all about it until just hours before the presidential ceremony on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
As ABC newsman John Stossel would no doubt exclaim: Heidi, give us a break!

Very nice. It's too bad people like Heidi McIntosh are so engulfed in their own extreme agenda that they are required to abandon logic and resort to blatant propaganda.

While I agree with the idea's that Mr. Huck writes about, I believe that he is extreme in his agenda- as much, if not more, as the people he/we are fighting against. Personally I feel that sometimes he is a little too harsh in his letters. I have not meet him personally so I am just going off of the letters that I have read in the paper

i dont agree with what lenny has to say. i think if 1/4 of us had 1/10 the passion he has think of how powerfull our side of the debate would be.

I understand that SUWA is a VERY extreme and malicious group of people that use any little thing to exploit their agenda. I do not subscribe to any of their publications, but I know their reputation.

Rainer may be bound in fact and logical thinking (which are traits that I admire), but does that make him any less extreme? (not neccesarily a bad thing)

But you must say that he is passionate in his deffense of our hobbies. Sometimes he comes across as fanatical, at least that is how I see it. I happen to live in a neighborhood that has a few extreme environmentalists, and I have gotten into some discussions with them and they expressed to me thier view points and impression that they get from Mr. Huck.

I am just voicing my opinion here, so lets keep it civil now!!

Unfortunately in our media driven world of politics only the extreme positions get any airtime. The moderate voice is deemed by the media as “boring” and not worth publishing. The result is that both sides become more extreme in order to be herd.
