So Les Schwabe thinks it worth $110 to mount and balance 4 36" swampers, needless to say I disagree. Discount and Big o want $50ish, does anyone know of a cheaper place? The tires are far from new and its not a daily driver so Im really not too concerned with the quality of the balance. Thanks in advance.

You should mount them yourself, And if it's not a daily driver do they need to be balanced?
Les Shwabe sucks. That price is way out of line.IMO

If you don't want to mount them yourself, call around and see if you can find a place that will charge less for just a mounting w/o the balance. Try some smaller tire stores, not the big chains.

If you do need it for a DD then its all up to you. When I worked for BIG-O and we had huge mudder tires to balance, we were happy if they were less than 6oz off. Because there is so much rubber there and if you throw a chunk of tire/nobby off it throws the tire out of balance right then and there. They were almost hopeless sometimes. This was also about 5 years ago and the average tire size that was hopeless was a 35-12.5-r15. Larger tires now a days actually LOB the rubber instead of rolling anyways. We had a video in slow motion show us this affect. the tire goes slightly oblong and makes the "tire-noise" at freeway speeds. This is expecially noticible in larger tires like the TSL Boggers and Mudder series tires, as well as tires that have a softer rubber compound to grip and flex over rocks.

Thats my $.02

WalMart was ok... Sometimes they didn't balance very well, so I'd just take them back and make them do them over. A balance job on my tires would last 10-15k miles before I would take them back in again... But everytime I did come back, they dreaded seeing me. Right hand sold the lifetime balance, while the left hand said no way. The dead meat in the middle didn't know any difference and I did have to get pushy on balancing them a few times. You know the whole 'if you dont balance them, then dont sell the lifetime deal'.

I appreciate all of the comments. This is not a DD but I dont have a trailer yet so it will see 70 going down the freeway occasionally. 95% of the time it wont be over 40. Im going to give mounting them myself a shot tomorrow. I havent decided on how to balance them yet.

Wal-Mart...can't beat the price. I got to the one in Rivedale because they got new machines with really nice teflon guides so no scratchy on the rims!!

Our local Les Schwab charged me like $6 a wheel to swap 8 rims/tires when I bought MBryson's burb. Having Tiny2085 working there might be worth that discount LOL
