It's been years since I've been serious about biking, but just about every Mongoose I've ever seen/rode/etc has weighed a ton. I'm willing to bet that bike will be no different at that price point. What kind of riding do you plan to do? If you think you'll do more on the street then do yourself a favor and get a hard tail. Also, one of the best pieces of advice I've heard is go ride the bike you want to buy. No bike will fit two different people that same, so people telling you that they love/hate that bike won't help you much at all. You may be better off getting a used bike for that price range, you'll get a much nicer bike with nicer components and that will make your riding that much more enjoyable.

That's a cheap, Chinese bike. It will probably start falling apart within the first 6 months. I 2nd Calebs suggestion to buy a good, used bike. Look on KSL, I would suggest spending a little more, even for a used bike, get something that is built well and will last for a long time. A mtn bike in the $300-400 dollar range is the minimum for a decent bike.

I found a bike ten times that on ksl, it was used but a dependable and lighter Trek for $80 was the best way to go. I work for Fezzari Bikes but my sister was looking in the $200 price range and 20 minutes later I was picking up her bike. You'll be very unhappy with that mongoose.

That is a heap of sh*t, you will be throwing your money away.

Spend a little more on KSL and get something quality. ;) Full suspension will cost you a little more-- but I think I saw an older Cannondale V-Somethingorother that would suit you just fine and hold up a million times better than that Mongoose POS.

Mongoose's day was like, before '93, when they made wicked light AMP-designed (and breakable, but cool) strut bikes. Since then, they are not really in the "good bike" market.

Honestly I wouldn't ever spend less than about $1000 on a full suspension bike. In most cases you'll be happier with a hard tail (a bike that has front suspension only) in the less than a $1000 price range. I would suggest, like Greg said, KSL for a slightly used 250-350 range hard tail.

I purchased a used Down hill/ Free ride bike this year. its a cannondale perp. its freaking awsome! I still had to pay 1600 for it. but its very well worth paying for something once thats going to last. A free ride bike is deffinently not something you want to peddle though :D

I still have a GT full suspesion bike I have been trying to get rid of for $250. It's a good bike to get started on and feel you way around on. It's a LTS 3 I believe.

I have a GT in the shop for some work and it has written on the top tube "welded carbon fiber" It's a decal under the clear coat! I'm unsure just how Carbon fiber is welded???
