Moving cruise control servo 99 xj

So I am making space for a 2nd battery in a 1999 xj with a 4.0L.

One of the things I moved was the cruise control servo. I would like to re-install it, but it isn't going to go where it was. (the relay/fuse box is there now)

Does the orientation of the cruise control servo matter? If I were to mount it upside down near the firewall would it work fine? (so long as the wiring and vacuum were routed over there)

Also does any one know if there other Chrysler vehicles that had the same servo but a different length cable?

I'll get pictures up soon...

I wouldn't either, it is a vacuum diaphram, it should work wherever.

I will try it when I get it back together and let everyone know.

btw here are pics of the dual battery project.

i can't imagine the orientation being of importance but hey give it a shot and see what happens. if you die in a fiery accident, i apologize

Ok so it looks like Chrysler used the same cruise control servo in most vehicles of that era. I went to pick n pull and found what looked like the same servo on mini vans, stratus's, other jeeps. I didn't check part numbers or wiring connectors, just a quick look.

All of them had varying cable lengths and the cable is removable. Some of them seemed to have a different hook up on the throttle body, this is something that may be made to work I don't know. The mini van's had really short cables, but I wanted to keep the servo in the general area it was to minimize electrical re-routing. As it worked out I didn't have to splice any wires.

I pulled a cruise control cable off of a 96 grand cherokee with an I6. The cable was a direct swap and about 18 inches shorter. This is just about the perfect length to mount the servo pointing straight at the engine. (OEM 99 xj it pointed toward the firewall)

I currently have it mounted 90 degrees from what it was, I can turn it if it doesn't work, I will just need to drill holes. (The electrical and vacuum connection were horizontal they are now vertical)

I also got to use the two holes that the prop rod used to be bolted into to mount the servo.

The OEM air box is going away, but I am cramming a york and hopefully an auto tensioner in that space.

I really thought that I could live with only one battery but I like how well everything runs with two and that I can pull the 2 batteries and use them as a 24v ARC welder on the trail

Stay tunned for the custom PS/york bracket.
