Mud Flaps

So I got pulled over this morning for not having mud flaps on my truck. This was stupid because there were several people speeding around me and he pulls me over:mad:
I HATE mud flaps, they are just plain ugly, but in the great state of Utah if you lift your rig you have to have mud flaps.
What do you guys run for mud flaps on your rigs? I would like to see some pictures so I can get some ideas.

Damn I hate mud flaps! Thinking of registering the Bronco as a Vintage Vehicle, then I would only need them in the winter.

Thinking of a set of these:

It is a quick solution and easily removed for the trail.

i would use square tube and bolt 1/4 thick rubber to it. make a 90 degree bracket that the square tube slides into and put a pin through it. This will hold the flaps very well and it would allow them to easily be removed for wheeling that is your best option. I have made mud flaps from: 1/4 Rubber, cheap thin floor mats and lexan clear flaps. The thick rubber lasted the longest and worked the best, and the thin rubber and lexan didnt last long and both came off on the road, not good

Would I just weld the square tube to the hitch? That would work out well.

Sorry, but I must agree with the officer on this one, a sticky 37" Swamper can kick up a lot of crap that will scratch paint and crack a windshield. Yes, I have flaps, and yes I have replaced a few after ripping them off on the trail, but they serve their purpose.

This is probably the most common. I also made some like this for a Jeep I had but bolted the square tube to the top of the bumper and ran some aluminum tube through it with the flaps attached like the Teraflex ones. Pepboys has some good size and thick mudflaps to use.

Visual displeasure was the only complaint I've read in this thread..., I don't think anyone was discounting the function of the mudflap, or the law that requires you to run them...

That's pretty much what I have.

That's a single big truck mudflap (cut in half--half for one side, half for the other) from Six States. I'm sure they are almost 100% non functional at any kind of speed, but they do satisfy the legal requirement of being to the middle of the tire or greater.

I am going to disagree somewhat, yes my TSLs can pick up the larger rocks, however I think that a tighter tread pattern will pick up many more rocks and crap than my open tread pattern will.

The law is the law and I will just have to live with it I suppose, but it is a stupid law. perhaps they should focus on gravel trucks and such. I have never gotten a chipped windsheild from a lifted rig, I have gotten them from trucks with BFG AT tires and dump trucks of course.

Let's face it, I will put some mud flaps on and when I am driving 65 MPH they will not do any good. They will be flipping up and not stop anything . Just silly!

The #1 cause of rock chips is... shit on the road surface. #2 is dirty/muddy vehicles. #3 is vehicles hauling gravel/dirt with bent or broken gates or loaded higher than the sides of the trailer.

ALL vehicles throw debris if it is on the road surface. I average 135,000 miles per year and I can promise you these as facts. Idaho and Montana are where I get the most rock chips, though the chips tend to be very small. Idaho and Montana sand their roads in the winter. Wyoming is next for rock chip frequency, and that is because of the multitude of vehicles coming out of the oil/gas fields covered in mud. They are the cause of the larger rock chips.

Any debris on the road will become a rock chip regardless of which vehicle travels over it. Doesn't matter if it is a grain of sand or a 2x4 it will get picked up or spit out.

Having said all of this, the crews in Utah county working on I-15 have done a great job keeping the roads clean during construction.

I personally think mud flaps do not help the problem, they just change the direction of flingage. I also think every single penny from a mudflat ticket should go toward CLEANING THE DAMN ROAD.

When i moved to Utah i wasn't here a day before i got pulled over for no mud flaps on my Frontier. Just put some on and no worries from cops since. I guess they didn't care to inspect the SAS or anything else.

There is no money in it for them to inspect it! simple as that.
