Mud Flaps

While the safety inspections are a pain for the off-road crowd, they do keep a lot of crap off the roads. Go take a drive through WVC or some of our other poorer neighborhoods and look at all the cars sitting in driveways that are falling apart because they can't afford to fix them correctly to be on the roads, also add to that the riced out crap that would be unsafe.

That's a single big truck mudflap (cut in half--half for one side, half for the other) from Six States.

That's the same setup I'm running. I got my semi truck mudflap at cal ranch for about $11.

mine are super temporary, made from some angle and an old treadmill belt...

they do un-bolt pretty easy (I didn't feel like taking them off at the time.)

They are super light so will flap around.

When I get my real bumper I will actually do something similar with some wing-bolts and either thread the bumper or weld some nuts on the inside.

On my bronco I used one semi mud flap cut in half it said "peter" on one side and "built" on the other. I got it from a junk yard for a few bucks.

I have made flaps that are held on by hitch pins for the road. Weld a square tube to your frame, next slide a smaller tube inside it or weld smaller tube one on and slide a larger tube over it. Slide it on and drill a hole for you pin. Bolt your mud flap to the removable tube. Slide it on and pin it in place and your done. Best of both worlds, off for the trails on for the road.

i made my own setup on my Jeep out of some 1/4" sheet rubber. I picked it up at Hose and Rubber. I don't remember how much it was though. They don't flap in the wind at freeway speed and have held up really well.

Thought I would post up my solution for now. I welded some nuts on the inside of the bumper so they un-bolt. It doesn't take long to put them on or take them off. Flap material is from a gym grade treadmill... I added some red reflective tape since they stick out. Technically you cannot pass safety inspection with anything sticking out but you also need a mud flap so...
