Well I left my lights on the other day so I decided it was time for a dual battery.
I looked around the shop and had a brand new red top, a brand new blue top and a 1 year old DieHard Gold, it was then I realized, what are you some kind of nut that collects batteries...anyway. I decided on the blue top, which is what I currently run for my ignition battery also.
I opened the hood to see where to put it (2001 tj). I had before cut off my tube going to the stock air intake and put a K&N on, and then filled in the holes on my stock air cleaner box and filled it to the top with assorted nuts and bolts, it worked great, but I figured this was the place.
I made a quick run to Smith & Edwards (for those that don't live in Ogden its a store whose motto is "We have anything, if we can find it") for some 1" channel. I first built a battery tray. I then mounted it in using two of the existing holes for the air cleaner box and one existing hole I found on the inner fender below. I had an isolator lying around so put it in next. I wasn't worried about hooking my winch and stuff up to it just wanted to have it is case I needed to jump start myself.
As I surveyed what I had done I thought to myself it would be more fun to jump start myself with a switch so I looked in my garage for a while and found a nice 500 amp rated switch. I hooked the negative of the second battery to the first battery and then I hooked the positive to the first on through the switch, so if I leave my lights on again I just open the hood, flip the switch on, start the jeep and then flip the switch back off. Meanwhile the alternator just simply keeps the battery charged. If I'm winching I can also turn it on for more power. Anyway sorry so long. I threw in some pics for you to.
