I wasn't there exactly, but from reading the first page of this thread I would say they sent the wrong axle.
I know that... I'm wondering about compensating him, wondering what they said when he asked about that...

So did the welded shafts hold up? Time to pack the bearings in the axle that still has all it's wheels attached. ;)

joints. the caps are cracking and then the joint goes and takes out the shaft. I've only broken 2 outer shafts, the rest are just the joints going.

The problem is, I can afford 20 bucks here, 100 bucks there. I can't afford 1300 bucks for a 5x5.5" 60, and then the cost to link it up, and get a locker for it. If it were just as easy as picking up an 800 dollar 60 I would have done it a long time ago. I can't fabricate, so I have to pay osmeone else to do all that stuff and it'll add at least another 800 bucks to the price of it. I don't have that kind of money laying around--especially when I'm trying to buy a house.

Not that my D30 is real applicable, but I had way better results with c-clips (have to clearance the inside of the shafts) than the snap rings with the 760 joints. I tried tacking the caps (worked better than the snap rings, alone), I've full circle welded the caps (worn out ear, what the he!!--never broke that one) but the c-clips worked as good as anything. I got about 5-6 trips out of that set of shafts.

Your 37" Maxxis might just be too much, but maybe the c-clips are worth a try?

maybe teh full circle clips will help. I've always welded them up and when I haven't they last about 15 feet ;)

I'm going to order the bobby long joints. 40% stronger, treated caps, and no needle bearings. Hopefully that will at least reduce the number of shafts I'm destroying.

as far as the trailer axle, they said it seemed unusual since I'm not towing that much weight and the trailer isn't that old. even still, the warrenty is only 90 days (and didn't expect it to be warrentied anyways). I'm just pissed becasue the guy knew exactly what I needed and still sent me the wrong axle, which cost me a lot of money. If me or my company screws up and it costs a customer money, I make good on it and I thought that was pretty common practice. Guess not. he did say he'd give me a free set of 5 x5 hubs--so now I have to take even more time to drive up there, get the hubs, and take my trailer apart and put the new hubs on.

do you break shafts left and right cause of the highway gears in the diffs?
i just don't know how you got so good at breaking that thing. i abuse the crap out of my rig (you were there) and i don't have problems. you do have a ton more power than me, but i don't see how you break so much

I think it's a combo of the weight, the power, and the driving style. I'm a lot more aggressive than I used to be. I hardly broke anything the first 16 months I wheeled my rig. Then I began to push it and become more confident in what my rig could do, then I started breaking more ****.

I declare shinanigans. Cute girls and Pocatello go together like Michael Jackson and women. It just doesn't work that way. Until I see pics, you were so hyped up on beverages and NoDoz you would've hit on Rosie O'Donnell. :D

Ditto on the bearing package.
Cody, you need to lighten that thing up. I know you are tight on cash, but if you could somehow finagle a tube chassis, plenty of people would jump in to help you swap your drivetrain over. Does RL have a payment plan?

well, on another note, Wasatch Trailer doesn't seem to think they need to reimburse me for the money that their mistake cost me. Kind of a bummer because until then, I was really happy with their service and fully expected them to make good on their mistake.

What do you guys think--do you think that if a company makes a bone head mistake and costs someone not only time (8 hours) but money, that they should at least reimburse them for part if not all of it? Seems pretty logical to me--if I had a customer that a mistake of mine/or my company has caused personal financial loss, I reimburse them for it.....

Cody

I had a similiar deal happen with me with Aztec trailers... They screwed up on the way they installed there axles, ended up cutting my trailer brake wiring shorting out the Dodge and then had to drive home without lights and trailer brakes. On top of all of that they didn't even replace the wiring, just wire nut'd the cut wiring.. The guy was a total punk to deal with on top of it.. I will only deal with Bubbas in the future...

ya, I don't think I'll ever go back to Wasatch. They have the best prices, but if they won't take responsiblity for their mistakes, then I don't want to buy something from them. I don't expect them to warrenty the axle, I just hoped they would reimburse me the money that THEIR mistake cost me. I think that is reasonable.

I picked up my 20' dual axle trailer from Big Bubba's. He gave me a much better price than Wasatch and I have never had any issues hauling my heavy a$$ Bronco around. Can't say whether they will stand behind their stuff any better than Wasatch because haven't had a reason to call them. Hopefully someone from Wasatch reads this thread and realizes how crappy service ultimately costs them more in the long run.

So, umm. Cody, you did not tell us that you lost the axle and tire while driving from Salt Lake to moab. How did that happen? I mean, did you know it was happening, or did it just fall out while driving? If so...Did you see it on the side of the road on the way home???

hehe

sure I did ;)

Comeing down price canyon it felt a little weird, but I figured it was the rockstar and exhaustion talking. Once into wellington I notice that my trailer seems to be riding really rough--as if the shocks were out or something (I know trailers don't have shocks so save it ). I stop at Walkers and get out half expecting to see the leaky tire now flat, and the other tire on that side is completely missing.

I didn't feel or hear anything. You would think I could have heard or felt that??? I looked for the tire. I saw one laying in someones yard in wellington, but there was a guy parked in front of it with a big enclosed trailer and he appeared to be working on his trailer, so it may have just been his.

So, just to set the record straight, it appears that Wasatch is going to work with me on making things right. They are going to swap my 2 5x4.5" rims for a 5x5" rim and tire so that I can have a complete set. They also gave me the 5x5 hubs so I could convert the axle over. I think this is a fair solution as I would have eventually had to spend the money on a new tire and rim. Still a PITA, but at least they are helping me out with it.

Oh, ok, sorry, I did not see that part. Funny none the less, as you say, you would think you would have noticed somehow... Oh well, at least nothing happened as a result of that. IE the jeep and trailer taking your tow rig with it right off the road and into who knows what!

Cheers
