Necessary Evil...

Jacey and I traded in her '02 Audi A6.. 2.7 turbo time-bomb was just itchin to ruin us financially.. At around 90k miles the turboes are known to go out(told by those who have dealt with it), leaving a $6k repair bill. So we got out of it at 86k miles. Any major repairs on the Audi would break us, so the necassary evil was to trade it in, try to bury neg. debt into a newer car with a warranty..

We ended up with an '08 Chrystler Sebring with 15k miles. Seems like a great car.. 2.4L 4 banger(a size i'm used too), means no more premium fuel, and improved mileage.. That's a plus. Down side, is that we can't pass folks on the freeway at mach 4 anymore. Oh well.. You win some, you lose some. I talked the bumper to bumper warranty up to 100,000/5 years.. I feel good about that. It's covered for a good long time.

Driving it home we did run out of gas, despite the gauge says 1/4 tank. So i've got the dealership on board to look into that and correct it. Small issue, I feel that they'll make it right. The entire team at Legacy Mazda was amazing to fanangle numbers and find something they could get us into.. That Audi was a chore to get rid of. On Saturday we had 2-3 dealerships tell us 'good luck', and sent us on our way.. Nobody wanted to touch the it with a 10 ft pole. The highest offer we got on Saturday was $7k, whereas Legacy Mazda gave us $11.5k.. CarMax offered us $4,500 a few weeks ago? WTF? Anyways...

So we do pay a bit more a month, but our car is nearly new, covered, and good on gas. I can sleep better at night knowing the thing is FAR more reliable than the A6.... Just not as fast... ever..

Hope I just wasted a few minutes out of your day ;)

:p Always good to get away from European cars. Everyone I've EVER known with one loves driving them... until something happens. :D

Nice, my bro in law has an A4 that they are trying unload and get something decent, maybe I'll send them to Legacy.

I recommend them. They are scheduling the Sebring to go through their shop, and give us a loaner all on thier dime.

Too much fun to drive. The car sells itself from a fun to drive stand point.. But a practical stand point? Let's just say Jacey has some real blonde moments, and getting into that Audi was a huge one.

nice, except burying the debt part. Being upside down in a car sucks.

Tell me about it... We felt this was better than selling private party, buying a beater truck/car for me to drive, having that nickel and dime us for parts as they go out. Looking around on KSL and other sites, it's a buyers market for the A6's since people want out of them... So $11,500 trade in was fair to me. KBB listed it around $13k private in great shape..

A big ugly step into more debt.. but with a car that's covered under warranty.. Like I said, necessary evil..

We had a 99 A4 wagon with the 2.8 v6 and sport suspension that kicked butt on the road. The timing belt went at 62,000 and took out the heads to the tune of $3500. After that it just nickle and dimed s to death. Seriously, the last little while it was $500 a month in just petty stuff. Had a hard time even trading it in.

We've love the Volvo wagon and it's been good mechanically, but I'm thinking of selling it and getting a Grand Cherokee, something I can work on if I have to. Our commute is minimal, so I'm not that worried about mileage.

Dealerships are usually within $1000 of each other on actual cash value, and just bump the price of the new car up to cover the cost. I think Car Max does the purchase without trade in so it's not surprising they gave you the lowest bid.

Hope the new ride treats you well.

Give me the last 8 digits of your VIN# so I can verify your warranty info, yo. In my days working for Dodge/Chrys./Jeep, I have never known a salesman having the power to negotiate the life of a warranty. However, things may have changed recently due to increased competition between automakers and poor economy.

Oh, I see... you haven't done the deal yet? OK, well the car is going to have a factory warranty, and that is pre-determined and non-negotiable. Are they offering to give you an aftermarket policy to give some amount of coverage AFTER the factory warranty runs out? Thats what it sounds like to Me...

Your sales person @ Mazda may not even know the actual details of the factory warranty, so we had better check it out before you sign papers.

Bingo, they said the 3 year/ 3600 miles stands from Chystler, then Legacy offered 5 year/100k miles bumper to bumper.

to the original owner they are. But at least on my 08 Hemi, it is NON-transferable.

ASFAIK, any vehicle's liftime powertrain warranty is nontransferable.

That's too bad you're upside down on this one. You know, in two years you'll be trading it in on a near new 2010 Dodge Caravan to haul all the Mini-Sami's in, thus adding to your upside downness....

You may deny it now, but it will happen. :D
