Hey smart folks,

the fox air shocks on my YJ have let me down for the last time (literally). I can't risk another trail side blow out. they suck. I want to replace them with coilovers, so at least if the air escapes i can drive off the trail. my suspension mounts are 23 inches top mount to axle mount.

what brand do you all recommend? Given this is a trail only rig i don't want to spend the most $ possible. King coils are prolly out of budget.

Anyone is SLC valley have these on the shelf or do they need to be special ordered? best web prices for anyone?

facts behind this: i have fox air shocks that hold the suspension on my YJ, D60 rear with 4 link. There may be too much weight back there? but given that i have no spare, the body is cut up, etc i don't think so. both sides have collapsed at one time or another this year so i don't know what's wrong with the shocks. they may not have been built properly by outer limit motorsports where i got them...needless to say they are out of biz so no help there, plus don't suggest i just fix them because i've lost all confidence in them. also the mounts are there so i'm not ready to re-engineer my suspension to regular coils, etc. thx

I have very limited coilover experience but i think the king coils are way overpriced. I have sway away race runners and i love them so far.

could be a lack of bump stops and the shock traveling to far upward.

as for what type of coil over i would run it would either be Bilsteins or RaceRunners(swayaways)

i like fox personally i have run them for a couple years now, have not had any problems but really it is a personal preference.

I had zero problems with my Sway-Aways. Loved em. Keep in mind coilovers are much larger diameter than air shocks and you may have to completely change your mounts to keep them from rubbing on your chassis or tires. How long are your air shocks? Interested in selling them cheap? :greg:

I have Racerunner's on my TJ and love 'em....

I have a pair of 12" travel (19" compressed) that I'd let go for $400. Remote reservoir style and no springs included. They are lightly used and were replaced with 14" from the rear when I put 16" in the rear. Springs are $60 each (new) for Eibachs.

I have Fox CO's on my Bronco, no problems at all. When I got them a couple things that made me choose Fox....Better price, I like the lower coil retainer better, easier to revalve at home....

Thanks for all the replies. I'm not familiar with the brands listed above but i may do some internet search. I'm open to buying someone's used coilovers if available but they have to have springs and be complete.
Understood there has to be room for coil in the suspension/frame setup. Mine will be close and may require changing the tabs slightly.
Good point on the bumpstops, no i don't have them. But neither does my buddy and his have never let him down. ?
