Hey guys, a good friend of mine needs some tall and skinny tires to run on the street on his TJ. Currently he is running a 38 14.50 swamper SX, but he needs something that is more narrow to fit under his flares.

Does any tire manufacturer make like a 38 12.50 or narrower? Do the 37 12.50 MTR's or BFG MT's run narrow? Ideally would be like a 38 10.50,, probably be goofy as hell looking,, but it would make him legal-ish

So he's running 38.5x14.50 SXs.

There is a 38x12.5 SX. I have 37" BFG KMs, and 1 37" MTR, and they are not real skinny, but a little slimmer than an SX would be.

I've seen some 36X9 somethings michelins... I think they were military, and for a 16.5" wheel... might wnat to look at something like that.

One of the main concerns is that if the tire is too wide it will rub on his rear shocks, with where they are mounted.

Is this just a road tire, or will he be wheeling on them as well? If its just a road tire and hes keeping the SX's to wheel on, you can get a radial buckshot in a 305/85-16 (36" tall), and i believe a few other off-brands like the Denman coyotes. The michelins are always annother option as well, if you can find them. The Co-op's have already been mentioned.

If hes going to wheel on them, its hard to beat the Q-78 TSL's and the 38.5x11 boggers.

36 or 37's

You can find 36 and 37 inch HMVEE tires (16.5 wheels, 12.5 width) for a good price on EBAY ( around $500 per set shipped in the 36's). The downside is a C load rating and soft rubber compound. We don't get a whole lot of miles on a set of these tires (maybe 15-20k). The Tires are Goodyear I believe.
