I'm in the process of building a rock machine with a 81 cj7. Can someone telll me some sources for a complete Gm 14 Bolt rear. I'm also looking for the same info on a d60 front. Would it be cheaper to get the 14 and 60 from a salvage yard and build them up or should I buy them complete. I have a LT1, Atlas 2, frame and body but everything else has to be purchased and even though I've four wheeled for years but theres a lot I just don't know. I've watched this board for about a month and have learned a ton from you guys.
Thanks

I would only buy them from a junk yard if you want to pay way more than you need to! I would get a 14bolt from Pick and Pull I picked one up there for $42.50... I guess car rear ends are only $85.00 ( when I bought one) and it was the 1/2 price sale. I told them it was from a Ford LTD and the dude never questioned it. As far as a front end, just keep you eyes open. I found 3 complete 1ton trucks 14bolts and 60's all were drove home and were less than $600 a piece and 1 was $200  They are out there, just look! If you dont have any time, and have $ I guess order one.

Wow. Do all LTD's have 14bolts or only certain years?

WTF? No! They only come in Chevy's. I just told him it was from a car so it was cheaper. Butyou should have no problem finding them at any parts yard or used POS truck for $50.

also... stay away from the semi-float 9.5 14 bolt... you want the full floater 10.5 14 bolt.. I found my FF in a 4x4 3/4 ton 1977 Suburban, it had the bigger brakes..
