My brother bought his from Checker. I was doubtful about buying from there but it actually is really good quality and has a 3yr warranty. It was also cheap.

you're teh first person I have heard of having a good experience with a checker/auto zone reman...not sure if you've checked your brothers but most of them have different sized cylinders cause they only bore the cylinders that need it and the ones that dont they dont touch...

The link I gave, S&S Engine Reman, is where I just ordered my 350 long block. I haven't recieved it yet but feel prett ygood about what I'm getting at this point both costwise and quality. I'm having them do a few extra goodies to help give Leroy some more 'pep', and they're painting it chevy orange to boot. There is another reman place called Jenkins....I don't have the number off hand but they were more expensive than S&S and I don't think as thorough. There is a link on that site somewhere that lists all the things they do to every rebuild.

Also consider a local shop.

I was suprised too. His neighbor who is a fleet mechanic told him to buy it there. They have a couple of different companies to choose from and his is a year old now and it does not use any oil and it stays clean between oil changes with excellent compression. It was fully assembled so I don't know what was done to the cylinders.

My dad is also a mechanic and he would never buy an engine from checker or Twilight zone. In fact some of his clients have bought engines from there and he refused to put them in and sent them elsewhere since he thinks they suck.

So, I am going to be getting a new 4.0 long block for my Cherokee soon. Who would you guys buy from and why????

Why don't you rebuild what you have?
That should be cheaper than a new or reman'd longblock.

Stroke it while you're at it...

Unfortunately, I don't have the time to be out of a vehicle to rebuild it. sooooo, new is good. I might do a stroker while I am at it. Just worried about cooling issues. 4.0's already run hot!

6 months later.....

Have you been happy with the engine and service you got from S&S? Do you remember what shipping costs were?

Ummm......yes......it seems to be good. Runs fine and all that. Their work seems fine. I don't remember shipping costs but I believe their website will tell you. Or give em a call. I can't get the damn thing to start right now (I think my computer may have bit the dust.)

One thing a little disappointing is that it just doesn't seem as powerful as it should be, considering it is a freshie with P&P heads, balanced, and RV cam. (Maybe I was expecting a drag car?? Dunno.)
