New Farm Truck

My family owns a ranch where we grow hay on about 60 acres. The rest of the ranch we use to ride our horses and atv's. We recently got rid of our old farm truck, it was a 1982 chevy sierra, prior to that we had a 99 F150. My grandpa has given me the assignment to find him a farm truck. He is your typical old farmer, he has had two strokes and a heart attack so he doesn't get around as much as he used to. When I asked him what he wanted me to look for in a truck he said "it needs to be automatic and four wheel drive would be nice but wasn't necessary." Being a farm truck it will most likely be driven less then 1000 miles a year. It will be used to pick up farm supplies from town. We sometimes use it to haul hay and horses (a four horse trailer) And yes I am thinking it can double as a crawler hauler :D He has given me a budget of $5000, what would you guys recommend looking for? I have never owned a full size truck, as I have been searching I am finding a lot of trucks that I feel would work for my application. Just looking for some years and models that you would recommend and why.

I am personlly a Ford guy. I would look for a 1990"s f-350 with a 460. Cheap, lots of them out there, reliable, Dana 60 front end. I would stay away from anything with a small motor to try and save fuel. The trade off is not worth it in a work truck.

May not be relevant any more, but for hauling a 4 horse trailer, I would for sure go diesel. When you start doing the math it is amazing how heavy they are!
