New Gig...

I haven't been online much for the last couple of months, because I have come down to Arizona for a new job. Finally gave up on the railroad, after four years of hanging in there, couldn't stand to lose any more than I already had.

The new job is wildlands restoration, we work for the state and federal gubmint, as well as organizations such as the Rocky Mtn. Elk Foundation. Right now we are restoring grazing lands for the elk herds in eastern AZ. I run one of these...

Basicly, I'm making meadows where they once were, before they were encroached upon by the juniper/pinyon forests that have come down off the hilltops and overgrown the valleys. The best part is where I'm working. It's beautiful out here, and I live on the jobsite most of the time. Full time camping/ hunting...

In these pics, you can see the work we are doing. The meadows in the distance are previous areas we've worked.

Sorry to hear UP didn't work out for you Cory, glad you found something that you really enjoy though! Sounds like a great job, operating heavy equipment is pretty hard to beat.

Yeah, it would've been niceif they could've kept me working, but oh well.
Did you officially resign? If not the door is still open. I read a little RR news and they say it's going to pick up again soon. They're hoping it's not going to bite them in the ass like it did in 96.

Good luck fellow railroader. We're a unique breed!!!

I am in the wrong line of work? How did you get into that? I have ran equipment for years, wouldn't have got out of it if I had that job.

Congrats btw.

Through rock crawling....I met my boss a couple years ago in Moab, we became friends and he offered me a job this summer. The cool thing is, he has a monster shop down here with all the benders and welders you could ever need. My rig will be coming down here this winter for some remodeling.

 Have you seen any big Deer or Elk? Looks like a pretty sweet job!
There are some huge elk down here. You can hear them bugling all the time. Deer aren't as common down here as elk, but I have seen a couple good bucks. I finally got my first coyote.
