I just bought my first Jeep a few months ago, an '00 cherokee sport and i'm looking for some help with a build. It's got a 3" lift and 31" tires, but that's it. I want to go up to a 4.5" long arm lift. I've been looking at some Rock Krawler lifts, the rear coil conversion. I'll probably go higher when these tires wear out, which will be a while. I'm a student so my modding money comes from donating plasma. Right now I'm saving up for a tranny swap. I want to put a NSG370 from the 04-06 wrangler in it. If you know of any shops in the SLC area that could help, please let me know. I don't have a place to work on it or the experience. Also, it's my only car and i don't want it to be down for too long.

I've had a few other 4x4 vehicles - an 87 suzuki samurai, a 94 toyota pickup, a 95 suburban, but i didn't really get into off roading until recently. i'm a decent mechanic, but building my own suspensions and welding and stuff like that is beyond me. I had a 94 camaro that i rebuild the engine to, but that's about it. My wife also wants a land rover discovery, which would be fun if both of us could go out. I'm also trying to get my younger brother to get a dodge ram with a solid front axle so he can go out, too, but i think he just likes huge lifted trucks to drive to school in. oh well.... one of these days i'll get an H3 alpha, but it will probably be more of a mall crawler.

Also, i'm a hardcore brand loyalist, can you tell? :)

ok, thanks for the help.

Welcome! your rig on 3" of lift and 31's will go plenty of places! You'd be surprised where it'll get you. Keep an eye out for upcoming "RME Quarterly Training Days", where we'll help you get to know other people in the sport and learn basics like land use, spotting, driving, recoverey, where to go wheeling in Utah, etc.

THe next one will be in a month or two. We haven't announced the date/time yet, but we will soon. Keep your eye on the "upcoming wheeling trips" section, that's where we'll post it.

Welcome, check out the training day for sure. It is a lot of fun and lots of great info, something to be learned by even the most experienced wheelers out there.
