Seriously though, that would fail about 10 different things when it came to the safety/IM and for pretty good reason too no? I'm not a fan of side by sides and I'm less of a fan of these. Hencho en China

I emailed them about this, their reply is that California is the 50th state. In Utah it may be registered as a "Low Speed Vehicle"
41-6a-1508. Low-speed vehicle.
(1) Except as otherwise provided in this section, a low-speed vehicle is considered a motor vehicle for purposes of the Utah Code including requirements for:
(a) traffic rules under Title 41, Chapter 6a, Traffic Code;
(b) driver licensing under Title 53, Chapter 3, Uniform Driver License Act;
(c) motor vehicle insurance under Title 41, Chapter 12a, Financial Responsibility of Motor Vehicle Owners and Operators Act;
(d) vehicle registration, titling, vehicle identification numbers, license plates, and registration fees under Title 41, Chapter 1a, Motor Vehicle Act;
(e) vehicle taxation under Title 59, Chapter 13, Motor and Special Fuel Tax Act, and fee in lieu of property taxes or in lieu fees under Section 59-2-405;
(f) motor vehicle dealer licensing under Title 41, Chapter 3, Motor Vehicle Business Regulation Act;
(g) motor vehicle safety inspection requirements under Section 53-8-205; and
(h) safety belt requirements under Title 41, Chapter 6a, Part 18, Motor Vehicle Safety Belt Usage Act.
(2) (a) A low-speed vehicle shall comply with federal safety standards established in 49 C.F.R. 571.500 and shall be equipped with:
(i) headlamps;
(ii) front and rear turn signals, tail lamps, and stop lamps;
(iii) turn signal lamps;
(iv) reflex reflectors one on the rear of the vehicle and one on the left and right side and as far to the rear of the vehicle as practical;
(v) a parking brake;
(vi) a windshield that meets the standards under Section 41-6a-1635, including a device for cleaning rain, snow, or other moisture from the windshield; and
(vii) an exterior rearview mirror on the driver's side and either an interior rearview mirror or an exterior rearview mirror on the passenger side.
(b) A low-speed vehicle that complies with this Subsection (2) and Subsection (3) and that is not altered from the manufacturer is considered to comply with equipment requirements under Part 16, Vehicle Equipment.
(3) A person may not operate a low-speed vehicle that has been structurally altered from the original manufacturer's design.
(4) A low-speed vehicle is exempt from a motor vehicle emissions inspection and maintenance program requirements under Section 41-6a-1642.
(5) (a) Except to cross a highway at an intersection, a low-speed vehicle may not be operated on a highway with a posted speed limit of more than 35 miles per hour.
(b) In addition to the restrictions under Subsection (5)(a), a highway authority, may prohibit or restrict the operation of a low-speed vehicle on any highway under its jurisdiction, if the highway authority determines the prohibition or restriction is necessary for public safety.
(6) A person may not operate a low-speed vehicle on a highway without displaying on the rear of the low-speed vehicle, a slow-moving vehicle identification emblem that complies with the Society of Automotive Engineers standard SAE J943.
(7) A person who violates Subsection (2), (3), (5), or (6) is guilty of a class C misdemeanor.

I mean they are fun until you need a spare part. They sell you a new one and they put it on their roof as a display I'm surprised they have made it compliant for low speed reg's but I'll take their word for it. I tell you I wouldn't want to get rear ended by a Honda Civic in one of those things.
PS, federal regs define a low speed vehicle as: "the maximum speed attainable in 1.6 km (1 mile) by each lowspeed vehicle shall not more than 40 kilometers per hour (25 miles per hour). I'm not sure how that difference from test units to production units but if these things only go 25 mph, I hate them 6 times more than a standard side by

To clarify, that wasn't meant to be a comeback or slam... I have a friend who owns a powersports company. This friend and I were having a discussion about side by sides the other day. So when I saw this post I looked into them a little bit,we emailed back and forth and then I called them. They are located in New Mexico, but obviously the parts come from all over the world. I tried to ask them about the gearing and the guy said he would have to ask a technician and get back with me. These have some pretty cool features to them. I think side by sides have there place, I think they are great for hunting. I think they are safer then ATV's in a lot of respects. As far as driving this around town, I think this is one step up from a moped...

Informative, sure. Applicable... not really. Again max speed is 25 mph on a low speed vehicle. If this thing truly only does 25 mph they not only built a lemon but missed their target audience too

I was in richfield last weekend and I couldn't believe how many plated utv's and atv's I say getting ready for the atv roundup. Many had doors, bumpers, lights, markers, windshields even wipers. Safer (and more useful in weather) than taking a hit on my motorcycle anyday.

No and for the exact same reason the Sandreeper would not. 'Low speed' is defined as having a maximum speed of 25 mph. However, we can register them as a 'street legal' OHV as per the new law passed here in Utah several years ago. It limits you to designated streets in towns of I believe with populations 7500 or less.

Easy to do but you have to be in an approved area to ride, i.e. Richfield, Grantsville, etc. The street legal OHV setup has defined rules, Sandy isn't happening
Low speed on the other hand doesn't limit you to the same criteria, but it limits you to 25mph which sucks
