New rockcrawling event idea

I must have nothing to do but dream up crazy crap like this.

Let's say we have a 4 hour (arbitrary number picked out of the air) nascar style (lap) race at Rattlesnake.

It could be for land use, a charity, or whatever. All participants pay $20 (arbitrary, again) to enter.

Here's how it works. Certain lines on RS are awarded certain point values. The harder the line the more the points. No penalties are given......it's simply a "make it though the line from start to finish to be awarded x points". Now here's the clincher: This is a lap race. The most points and the most laps wins! You run the trail to the top, get on the baja road, go back down, and do it again. Strategy: take the easy lines and plan on winning due to the quantity of laps you run. Or take the hard lines and get more points with less laps. If a vehicle comes up on your tail within 10 feet, you must yield and let them pass. Stagger start...stagger finish. You and your spotter are responsible for running the course and finishing, fixing broken stuff, etc.

What do you think? It would be hard to get permission from the BLm without some big bucks, but it might be fun to do on an unofficial level (ie, RME).

It sounds like fun but I think things would back up at the "obstacles". You'd have to figure out a way to turn time off for the people waiting if that happened. Would you have the same 'penalties' for winching, backing up, etc?

Run it in heats. 4 cars at a time, 1 minute apart. You would have to have classes too.

I am SO in for this. We'd have to make sure the whole place was clear of other people/rigs/ATV's/whatever first though. Wouldn't want to hit, say, a motorcycle guy while I'm rallying. ;)

WE could have people with radios stationed along the route to ward off others. Make the classes according to tire size. Camp out Saturday night and have the event early Sunday morning.

I don't think there is any point in having classes. The trail is so easy that built rigs don't really have that much advantage. We would have to think through the rigs backing up on the slow sections. There really isn't anywhere to pass unless you specifically let someone pass.

OK here's a solution. If you are causing a backup you have to take a penalty loop at the top (take the long way around the mine dump back to the baja road).

Also we need to either block off the baja road so it is a one way road or figure out a way to keep people from going too fast to prevent accidents.

I disagree. I have driven it with a 38" tire rig and a 33" tire rig. It is quite different for both.

We could just do a rock race fromt the bottome of the trail to the top. take turns, and fastest time wins. We could do brackets, even. One race to get a qualifying time, then heats. Fastest qualifying time races slowest qualifying time, and each round half the field is eliminated.

Radios... gunshot start, timer at the end.

Not sure if Radios would reach from end to end (line of sight) It's a short enough distance that a gunshot would work though :) Are the snakes in the "saftey zone" though?
