Howdy all,
My name is Darrel and wifes' name is Phyllis. Now that Planet 4x4 has been picked up by Greg and Shane I figured I better come over to this site and see what you folks are up to. We are serious Mud drag junkies. We haven't been out on the trails in years but have plans to get back out as soon as our new '08 Jeep Wrangler arrives. We miss going out exploring the trails. All we have to do is find the time between races :D. Any mud drag folks here? Come on over this way and race with us next season!

Thanks. You are close to Soda Springs, Id. Have you ever gone over there to mud race before? We try to make it to their annual mud drags every year. Missed it this year because of another race.

Good to see you here Darrel! I'm interested in what you've got under the hood & how its built. I'll take a wild guess that it's not the stock Toyota straight six... :greg:

Thanks Greg. Nope, the stock engine was froze up way back when we bought it. That was perfect because we wanted to drop a V8 in. Here is a link to a write up Matt did on the "Dawg" on Planet. it explains most everything about it so I don't have to retype it here. Also, here is a shot of the engine...It's a 541 c.i. Merlin block with Brodix heads. The write up will get into more details...http://www.planet4x4.net/forums/baddawg.php

Daaaaaaaaamn!!!! :freak::freak::bow: I figured it would be some sort of Chevy BB, but... a Merlin, with Brodix heads?! I read the article, over 700 horse! That ought to be a fun ride! That's impressive, I love the wheelie shot in your avatar. It all makes sense now. :greg:

I built a CJ5 with a 400 horse SBC, Dart Sportsman heads, full roller valvetrain. That thing was a monster, the frontend would come off the ground in every gear. Nothing compared to 700 HP, but it was fun to drive!

It's an "E" ticket ride alright! Oh, it's over 700 ft. lbs of torque and over 835 HP running on C-14 fuel...no nitrous (That stuff scares me). This winter we are going back through it because it's time for new pistons. Might bring in a new cam as long as it's torn down

Jeeps usually weigh about 1000 pounds less than a Land Cruiser. That 400 hp you had would have certainly turned it into a monster. I've lost to many SBC Jeeps through the years. It's all about traction.

Welcome to the site, I have been known to mud race from time to time,( bronco w/460) but not near the kind of horsepower you have. In fact you are the kind of guy who usually ends up with my entry money.
I usually have more fun, cause I rarely break anything, and know going in I won't win. So the pressure is off. Yours is also the kind of rig I love to watch. Keep up the good work.:D

Thanks for the welcome. We usually do well locally but for reality checks we like to race at places like Soda Springs. There are some serious mud racers out there from Utah, Colorado, Oregon, Washinton, etc that kick our butt all the time. It's all about having fun

Are they hosted somewhere? If not, upload them to Google Video or Youtube, then they can be linked here pretty easily.
