I love the ASE certified radio adds and then you show up to the shop and their 21 with mig in hand....

That's scary and funny...

I am going to be certified as soon as I turn 18 just from my classes at high school.

I just ignored that statement from suka cause I am only 23 (not certified mind you, and dont care to be) and can garantee I can weld circles around most people on this board...of course I do it all day every day:D

I've been jeepin since 91 but that don't make me the bomb....
No one is the best at anything....We are all good...

Some of our jeeps flex (well SICK)TW while others just move-sukab...
That doesnt make one better than the rest here...Does it...

I wasnt refering to yourself anywho it was a shot at the mis representation of some around here and their ability to screw the customer over AGAIN...

Well, I started welding when I was 14 and I admit I am not very good but I am learning. The ASE certification would just help me getting jobs right out of high school.

I haven't decided yet. I am still shopping around for a good bargin....I am still debating. I am not sure I will truly get enough welding to benefit from a nice welder. Since I haven't ever done it , and am not sure I will get enough use out of it, I am still undecided

how good is a v110 lincoln sp 125 gasless? My boss has one and I have been contemplating doing a bed bob. will this work well and where should I draw the line in terms of structural integrity with this little welder. eg sheet metal only... bumpers yes/no.... cages yes/no etc...

i am not so sure you want a cheapo. i bout a hobby stick 110 and played with it for awhile. then i used my friends variable high power stick welder and it was totally different. i don't think that it would be worth it to buy a cheap one and use it, then buy an expensive one. if you add it up, it is cheaper just to buy an expensive one.

today i had to go buy a new chop saw because my $50 harbor freight one broke... i spent $212 on a dewalt (with 5.3 horsepower!) and i am pissed that i wasted that $50 by being a cheap ass.

just what i think, but do what you can afford by all means.

It should do fine for body work, bumpers, sliders, and even cages:eek:...atleast if you use .120 wall like most people...most dont like to hear this and say you wont get good penetration and blah blah blah...thats thinner than 1/8th inch and if you aren;t getting penetration through that then its not the machines fault...but I wouldn't go as far to say it will do 1/4" regaurdless of what the machine says it can do...I use to have a lincoln weldpack 100 (basically the same mahince you are asking about)for a long time and it was fine but its duty cycle is very small (like 10% or something like that) and it surely has its limits...I wouldn't want any winch points or other high stre points welded on with it...
