I know Merkur (spelling?), the gold mine above 5 Mile Pass, has an acid lake... I hope the bird would no better than to drink out of it. Not sure if they'd have any other harmful chemicals, but I wouldn't doubt it.

That's too bad about the wing, I really hope that's not the case and it fully recovers. :-\

UPDATE: I know this has been a long time coming but so has this wonderful bird, first off we have narrowed it down to a HER about 6yrs old. All tests that came back on the poison just showed a high "lead" like she might have been shot with a shotgun or something of that nature. As for the wing she broke due to her crash landing it did have to be amputated. She is doing wonderful and since she will not be able to be released back into the wild she is in training to work as an education bird. So be looking for the two of us at a few of the expos and local schools and Eagle scout functions. If your interested in having a private showing of "freedom" and some of our other birds of prey let me know and we can discuss what your looking for. All the work we do for these wild animals is out of our own pockets so donations are very welcome. Thanks I will get some current pics up in the coming days, I forgot about this post so figured i better update ya'll and for those that donated to her medical bills THANK YOU we couldn't do it without your support

I saw that you said they were fiesty birds. Are they just like macaws where you can have some that are fairly friendly and some downright mean ones?

That is awesome! Cool that she will have a place to go that will continue to care for her.
I wonder if the cause of the poisoning could be biomagnification. If the main source of food has a small amount of lead over the years the upper level consumers can accumulate small amount adding up to a large amount. This is the reason why DDT is outlawed. It was killing eagles by weakening the egg shell without them ever touching the stuff directly. Sometimes being at the top of the food chain sucks(but not as much as being at the bottom:-\).

Pueblo, as in Pueblo, CO?

Here are a few pictures of the neighbors that I just took a couple of minutes ago from my front room and back deck:

I definitely need to get a better camera.

Such amazing animals. I don't think anyone can see an eagle up close without stopping what you are doing to watch it.

They are some amazing birds. Back in Oregon in Klamath Falls we used to be able to go to a dead tree on the lake right in downtown that was held up by cables and if you were lucky you could see up to about 12 of them perched on this one tree.
