Next rig options?

A few more thoughts and questions as I have done more reading and thinking.

1) 80 Series Cruiser fits the bill great (gas mileage excepted) but are rather absurdly priced.
2) Lexus GX and 4Runner more reasonable priced, but seem to have same limitations as my Xterra of limited lift options, max 33" tires. Do I gain much buying different vehicle compared to investing into the Xterra?
3) Tacoma-First generation with lift may have best break over angle of the list, obviously some less than stellar feed back earlier in the discussion on comfort. Second gen seems to have worse breakover, entry and exit angles.
4) Tundra (1st gen, access cab), V8 gives great power option, similar to Tacoma in many ways but worse departure angle because of longer bed. Otherwise possible my first choice for versatility.

So, I am now need to gain more insight into lift and locker options for each, including cost (suggestions on who I reach out to?) and see what I can buy as base to build from.
I love all of those options, so it will be a tough choice!

If you were to keep the Xterra You could make it more capable with the help of @maxterra his products are great.

Id say go for the tundra and fix the departure angle with a high clearance rear bumper or a bobbed bed

Solid Cruiser right there, has the owner done a head gasket in the past? When they get up in miles, that seems to be an issue... as well as leaking front axle joints and possible worn Birfs. Fortunately you have @cruiseroutfit for parts and advice, locally.

Full engine rebuild about 100K ago, front axle redone 2 years ago. Not sure if/when Birfs replaced (we did chat about their occasional trouble on the trail).

Is that Troy's?

I can't imagine 5k of horse trailer behind an 80... Unless I wanted extra time for knitting sweaters.
Not to worry, the Durramax stays around for the heavy lifting.

My biggest complaint with my 1st gen Sequoia is the rear hatch :D just a terrible latch design, I think I replace mine about every year or two.
Next complaint is it needs to be higher, one of the few vehicles I've high centered on a minor obstacle. I'm still stock springs but seriously thinking about sticking a small lift on it. Would love to fit a 285 tire on it.
It's a kid hauler, it can handle 8, I don't think I've towed more than 3k pounds with it and it handled it fine.

I have a buddy wheeling a 1st gen Sequoia. They are land yachts, but workable. If I remember right, we had to cobble together lift parts for other vehicles, but the awesome folks at Cruiser Outfitters were able to get us what we needed.

No personal experience. But the 4.7 is very reliable with upkeep on timing belts. Tons of room and fairly comfortable. Anything that fits a 1st gen tundra front end also fits them. Had a friend that had an old man emu kit on his with 285s and he loved it.

That is a cool build....but will he sell it to me? :rofl:
I don't think I would want to tackle everything he did on the build.

I thought the width difference in Access Cab vs Double Cab/Sequoia was only due to the plastic flares, and not sheet metal. The height difference is likely only a OEM spring difference. No?
