Looking at 05 and newer 4 door, I don't see a lot about these rigs, but I haven't looked too hard yet. Good, bad, indifferent? Is it worth it to find a NISMO?

I have an 05 NISMO and it has been a great truck. Not as much aftermarket suport as the Tacoma but there is some. The locker in the NISMO package is nice, but there is an ARB available for the regular axle. Check out www.clubfrontier.org

We sell Nissans. My only problem with them is the company is French owned... many people don't have issue with that. I owned an pre-French Nissan and liked it very much through the 6 years I owned it.

Heading north (provo slc) tomorrow and I will be looking at both tacomas and frontiers. I like the tacomas, but those 05 and newer frontiers are purdy to look at. I don't need a ton of aftermarket stuff for this one, probably just a lift and snorkel if I find a NISMO with a locker.

I hear the fuel economy isn't that impressive. I sold a civic to a guy who needed a commuter since his frontier got 11-14 mpg stock. Yuck. I always check fuelly.com to see real-life fuel economy.

EDIT: now that I check fuelly.com, it's not much different from a Tacoma. Maybe that guy just drove like a leadfoot.

That's a cool little site, I've never seen that one before

The guy that I built sliders for his 2010 Pro4X frontier had the supercharged motor and got 13.4 avg mpg. That's all I know about them. I think they look okay, just too small for my needs. I prefer the frontier interior over the Tacoma. But that's me. For some reason I feel like Toyotas interior dept is constantly 5-10 years behind everything else.

My brother has an 03ish Frontier crew cab with a supercharger. He's lucky to see 12mpg :-\

Supposedly the 05 and newer saw a big increase in mileage and power along with rack and pinion steering.

my 2000 frontier stock got 21mph at 70 mph with the AC on. so i think those 03 mileage #s are suspect. but the 05 has the new 4.0 liter so who knows. i sincerely doubt they only get 13 when my titan got 19 with the 5.6 V8. i think it's all in how you drive though...a lot of highway and easy on the skinny.

I drive an 05 pathfinder. Same motor and junk. The 05 and ups aren't supercharged, but they are way faster than the old supercharged ones. The motor is awesome and the gas mileage is high teens to about 21 on straight freeway. I like them much better than Tacomas except for aftermarket support. They are surprisingly fast, and the six speed is a cool option in the trucks.

The only issue to watch out for is in the 05, the radiator was a bad design. It would corrode and put antifreeze in the transmission through the cooling lines. It happened to me and it shifts funny now. The rebuild if/when it goes is about 4000 bucks, ouch. CHeck the tranny fluid for contamination, or get the manual and have more fun anyway :)

I was seriously considering a Frontier two years ago when I bought my wife's Grand Cherokee. The 4.0 motor has awesome power. I got 22 mpg during the 50-60 mile test drive. I really loved the truck, but my wife went for the Grand Cherokee instead. The have an inexpensive 2" lift available, and with some slightly larger tires they look real good.
