If you are wanting to run NO then there are a few things you should be aware of. First, if you want to run large amounts of it, say over 75 - 100 hp shots then you will need more than a stock motor. Second, If you are wanting to run more than that then you are at the least looking for forged pistons. Be careful with the laughing gas. It can destroy a motor very quickly if you don't know what you are doing.

I have used NO previously on a mud racing truck. If you are serious then build your motor around the NO shot you are wanting to run. Edelbrock makes a nice kit for up to 250 hp and Nitrous Oxide Systems also make many, many kits for you. Everything from 50 hp cheater shots on up to multi-stage pro fogger set ups.

beach I ran a 250 shot on my old truck I used to have, It had a forged crank and pistons though. very cool stuff! What are you waiting for :)

He is waiting for it to blow up the engine in his face. That way he can spend forever putting it back together again. ;)

Why do you want Nitrous on a buggy? Planning on Rock Racing? Are you fuel injected or carb? Small carb systems are the cheapest and easiest to install. EFI and larger systems get expensive quick. Whatever you decide, spend the money to do it right. I have seen a few motors gernade from cheesy nitrous setups that did not have the correct solenoids, purge valves, rotating assembly, etc. Nothing like seeing engine part fly through the hood and chip the concrete...

FYI: Oddly enough a stock quad-4 in a late 80's Olds will take 150 hp of NOS and keep begging for more. They just won't blow.

I put NOS on my truggy last year. I love it!
Its alot different using it rock crawling, than racing. my buddies that run NOS
on there sleds are on the NOS all the time.
In my truk I only use it once in a while, big water falls, wet conditions, snow, sand.
when Im crawling in the rocks, the launch you gain is awesome! & you dont need much boost because of the lower gear ratio.
I set mine up with a 35 hp shot & that wakes my motor right up. My set up goes up to a 75 hp shot, I havent even wanted to try it at 75 hp, not on the rocks anyway.

What engine do you have though? I think beach has a 6.0 already

Compensating ?

I do have a 6.0. Maybe a turbo would be a better idea?? I just want more ponies.. 420 isnt enough..

What are you trying to do Beach? Compensate for something?

NOS? You are already blowing up dana 60 ring and pinions!

I do want to ride in it after the NOS!

This is true. Blowing up ring and pinions! I just want it to fly in the sand dunes and such. Maybe Ill get a different cam and some F.A.S.T. fuel rails and a few other minor parts to increase the performance??

What did you do to your 6.0 to get it to 420?

It had 345 HP stock.. I did a few minor things here and there.. With my exhaust the way it is its really really really tight. I think a turbo is the right direction. There is no such thing as to much power. As far as breaking parts it depends on how much your on the throttle:D

I agree, I think I would go with a turbo, or super-charger, if your looking for that kind of power. they are both more manageable power.
I think if you hooked up a 100 or 150 hp shot of NOS with your 420 hp motor, you will destroy alot of parts. when you engage the NOS its instant power & Its not very easy to meter. you can use bigger or smaller jets but that also effects the HP. In some applications it works great, but I think you would be happier with a turbo or some motor mods.

Each power adder has it's advantages and disadvantages. Nitrous is not instant like they portray in movies. In my experience, the single fogger nozzles have always hit harder than direct ports, but still felt quite progressive.

I used nitrous quite a bit in the racing business and had fairly good results with it. The kits always seemed to exceed torque expectations on the dyno, but fell short on HP. Six of one, or half dozen of the other. It still worked.

IMHO, you can run 75-100 shot all day long on a modern stock V8 engine with proper tuning. Make sure that you have a good pump, higher octane gas, cool running temps and plugs, and start out with fat fuel jets. I would stay away from systems that use wet or dry foggers and go to a direct port instead. Thats just me.
