No reverse on the trail.

I have noticed the last couple of off road trips I have gone on that it is physicaly impossible to get my trany to shift into reverse. All the other gears will work but I can't get reverse. Back on the road reverse works fine. The only cause I can think of is some how the trany is getting twisted or bound up inside and not letting the reverse gear fall into place. Any ideas? The trany is a ford ZF 5.

Is it just when you're in 4wd?

It is but only in a trail situation. It doesn't happen when I have the 4wd on for snowy road conditions. I have to do through uneven terrain to get it to happen.

Are you hitting sheet metal with the lever when it's bound up?

How are your engine/transmission mounts?

A section of the upper part of the mount has been cut by one of the prior owners. I do not know about the sheet metal. I will look into it my next time out.
