On any of the trails around here, can you run a stock suspension, 31" tire on a Jeep TJ or do you need to lift/bigger tires and change gearing. Would like to be able to have some fun with it, but don't have $4k extra either.

What kind of 4-wheeling are you looking to get into? General exploring, harder rock crawlingesq stuff? There are lots of opportunities out there for a stock TJ. Literally thousands of trails around Utah.

Yeah, there are tons of trails that can be run stock. That's the best way to start too! Rattlesnake is drivable in a stock TJ, and there are many trails in Moab that can be done stock.

I'd agree wholeheartedly with that. A stock Jeep is more capable than people will give it credit for.

Ok great, the way some people I have met talked sounded like could do anything with less than 35" tires. Right now I would like to be able to go out and have fun with the family, doesn't have to be too hardcore, I am coming from flatlands of Florida which is mostly just mudding.

i think rattlesnake at 5 mile pass is a great trail to run a stock vehicle.

rattlesnake, bountiful B trail, anywhere in 5 mile pass, hells revenge in moab, fins n things in moab, Little moab by the nutty putty cave. All these trails are very do-able in a stock TJ with 31's. That said there is alot of things you can do to make your ride alot more capable and easier to wheel with-out spending to much. Budget lifts for Tj's are right around 200 bucks, a auto locker, like a lock right, for your rear axle would be about 260 and some sliders from me would be only 200 installed and ready to rock.

rattle snake can be done in a BONE stock 97 toyota 4runner. It was a fun trail with some harder off shoots if you wanted to take them.
Salem is a nice area. I have friends over there. I like that it's close to mtns over in that area.

I will have a used budget lift available shortly complete with shocks. I did Poison Spider and Gold Bar Rim on 31s, no lift and open diffs. Stock TJs are very capable
