an 8" wheel also typically means your valve stem is close inboard and less likely to get snagged by rocks.

Since the title has the word "noob" in it, I figure it can't hurt to add:

- steel wheels hold a bead better than aluminum at low psi.
- steel wheels are heavier
- steel wheels don't balance as well

That being said, I always run steelies.

That reminds me, I need to replace those stupid american racing wheels that came with the TJ with some steelies.

So far all the people that reccomend 8 inch wheel say they only have run a 8 inch wheel or thats all they run. So has anyone here ever run a ten inch wide wheel and had problems. I have and had no problem at low 6 to 8 psi air downs so that is why i choose 10 inch wide wheels. I also ran 8 inchers but did not like how it make my side wall bow alot but every man to his own i guess, like TJdulit said any one of these wheels will work

I've run a 10" wheel, a 12" wheel, and a 9" wheel, and the 8" is by far my favorite. I didn't have "problems" with any of them, but the way the tread pattern gripped the rocks works best for me on an 8" rim. Nothing personal, you might like 10" rims, and that's fine.

I ran a 10" wheel as well. I did not like it, for reasons that I did list in my previous post.

thanks steve its not personal i just wanted to hear peoples experience, i always hear about 10inch wides and how they loose beads easier but i have not found anyone that has had it happen so i just want to know if tis myth because so far i have had no problems, maybe this needs to be moved to a wheel width thread

WHat's the purpose of the other thread? It sounds like you're set on 10" wheels. Even if 1000 people say they run 8" wheels, and they have their reasons for it, you'll still prefer 10" wheels. So it seems like a moot point.
