Noob tow rig questions

Ok, so that sounds like normal behavior, right? to dump the boost at higher pressure? Is that the "whoosh" sound you hear when turbo vehicles shift?

Are you sure it's "dumping the boost"? It shouldn't dump until it's above 30 or higher. (I've seen my stocker above 25)

If it feels like it's dumping at around 15psi or so, (or the boost guage is bouncing in that range) then it's actually surging, which is really bad for your turbo. Ask me how I know. I thought it was relieving pressure. Not so. $1100 or so later and I had a rebuilt turbo and a ported housing so it wouldn't surge anymore. And it doesn't, it's wonderful.

Joining in late, I towed with 315's for a while on my eXcursion and went back to 305's (33's), it just handles better on 33's. My wheelbase is shorter than a crewcab, so 315's on a crewcab are probably fine. I just got sick of the slosh from bigger tires. One good (the only?) argument for 18" or 20" rims.

I've had a drop in mileage every time I went to bigger tires, even adjusted for tire size/speed. So much for lower RPMs giving you better mileage.

Running 315's with 4.56's you'll be at about 2250rpm at 70mph, which is a little high. 37's will drop that to 2100rpm, very liveable. Until you have to pony up the cash to replace the tires.

I really liked mbryson's shortbed crewcab superduty with a leveling kit. The 285 toyo's looked bigger than the 315's on my excursion, and fit the 7.3 and stock gears perfectly. Good combo.

If you look at the spring pack directly above the axle there are 3 or 4 really short springs (cut off). These were put there to "lift" the front of the truck a few inches and in no way help the suspension. This is similar to a block lift other than the spring pack center bolt actually holds them on. Either way I don't feel that it is safe or the right way to go about lifting a truck. As you steer the truck it adds leverage to the springs in the wrong sort of way and the pins could shear off and really cause problems :-\ Andrew

Those short leaves are pretty typical for leveling kits and a lot of the lifts that I've seen (casually, as in walking by one in a parking lot). Never seen one with that many short leaves though. Superlift, Tuff Country and Rough Country don't use those.

It's a 2004.5 Dodge Ram 2500. Stock, no chip, 6 speed, and low miles. I don't have much cash I can offer, but I think this would be the ideal tow rig/dd for me. He's even got a trailer. We'll just see how much cash he needs to see if it's even in my ballpark.

For 2004.5 the truck was putting out 325 horse and 610 lbs of torque. I also believe that from the down pipe to the cat is all 4" and from the cat back the exhaust is 3.5" The common rail, six speed, long bed, will make a great tow rig. I am a Dodge fan so I hope I am not being brand loyal here. If you get it shoot me a PM and I will set you up with some ideas to make a great tow rig truly awesome.

Yeah, that would be the ideal tow rig. it sounds too good to be true, I doubt he'll go for it, but he proposed the idea, so it can't hurt to see.

thos trucks with the longbed and six speed depending on miles are going for around 22k and that with about 100k miles that color generally goes for less because its the most unpopular color is all but if you dont buy it let me know how much he wants and i might buy it

I get frustrated when people offer to trade me stuff, then when i say "yes", they say "oh, nevermind, I don't want to" or "my wife won't let me."

The F250 guy still wants to trade me, but 4.56's and 38s are going to be too low for highway driving in my opinion. I'd rather have a stocker.

You trade plus cash must not be enough. The "my wife won't let me" is the oldest excuse in the book.

he wouldn't even tell me how much cash he'd need to make it worth his while. Oh well. I'm just bummed cuz I was getting excited about it.

What do you guys think a '95 F350 4-door 7.3L 5-speed 4x4 with 185k on it is worth? Body is clean, frame is a bit rusty, but the truck is well maintained. Not lifted, 100% stock except for a 4" exhaust.

as usual, I got offered a trade for my taco, and I want to make sure I get what I need to out of it.

I think the 1995 was the first year for the Power Stroke turbo Diesel. If I am not right then someone needs to set me straight. With a clean body, maintenance records, and stock I would think somewhere in the neighborhood of $5,000.00. I may be wrong but, I think it would be a fair price.

I believe they started midyear 94, but X2 on the value, actually that is a good price if the truck is excellent.

I would say the five speed and four doors puts it in the 4000-7500 range. 94 was the first year for the PSD and they were pretty much the same for the most part from 94-97. Mileage seems good--they are extremely reliable trucks imo...
