I believe the northstar is a 90* bellhousing, so most chevy trannys...the shortstar is a 60* bellhousing...

would i need to get a newer one?cause the 700r4 arent computer controlled

you are correct, you dont want/need it to be computer controlled...actually in order to get the 700 you need its going to be an older one...you need on from an early s-10 with the 2.8L V6 or the like...

Just curious. Why not use a 4L60E? Wiring issues?

wrong bolt pattern...the 4L60E is a 90* bolt pattern, the EARLY 700 from the 2.8Ls are 60* bolt patterns and is what you need for the caddy engines...

SHIBBY :D what years would ya say would be the best bet

well, I am not positive but I think they are in pre85 S-10s...BUT what you need to do is get one and have it rebuilt with the parts of a later 700...the early 700s were known to be quite weak...

Not quite true, 3.4's with 4L60E's in camaros and firebirds are 60*. Seems to me that if you could work it out it'd be nice to have with the overdrive and all. Maybe you got the two mixed up because you said you thought the Northstar was 90*?

then bobdog corrected me, I thought the northstar was 90* but its actually a 60*...I didn't realized they made the 4L60E is a 60* bolt pattern, since thats the case then yeah, you could use it without any adapters. I'm sure you already know this but the 4L60E and the 700 are the exact same thing except for the 4L60E is electronicly controlled where the 700 is not. So both trannys have overdrive, the T350 and T400 are three speeds and do not have the overdrive but I dont think either of them were available with the 60* pattern...
