So my bro. (such a sweet spirit) learned a lesson today about heating spray paint cans. Doing so makes them go BOOM. He recently did a complete paint job on his 08 superduty spending thousands on getting it looking good and went out to my dads shop to spray some undercarriage parts. Unfortunately the spray cans were a little cold so he turned on mr. heater and turned it in the direction of the cans that were a few feet away. He then went out of the shop for a bit. My dad turned and looked into the shop and saw a fire ball about 8 ft tall and then heard the boom. The explosion blew out the shop door, opened all the cabinet doors, boat trailer spare was on opposite side of shop, attic door blow off, imprint of can in the metal ceiling and the new paint job on the truck is splattered with black spray paint. Time for a new door.
Sorry pics are small.

Wowzers, to be honest I've set a paint can about 5 feet from a Mr heater before, not to heat it up but still... it sat there for probably 1/2 hour. But when I picked up the can it was still cold to the touch so I don't think I was in danger of this happening.

The Feds need to ban paint cans ASAP! What if some wacko buys a couple cases of Rust-Oleum and a Mr Heater and puts it near a Federal building!!:ugh:

That is incredible, lucky nobody was injured.

I personally use a pot of hot water to heat up my cans of spray paint :)

Glad no-one was hurt

I always heat my paint cans by soaking them in a big mason canning jar with hot water from the tap. It's a little late now, but hopefully that'll help someone :)
