I personally think the previous law requiring an application for "special need" for a permit for a right as preposterous.

Even a 'shall issue' permit is an infringement, but that wont go away.

I think it's a great step for NY. It will not change a single criminals behavior, and allows more freedom for good citizens.

It was convenient timing that people were threatening the justices prior to this decision - good way to focus on making sure Americans keep the right to self defense

May issue is very discriminatory. States like NY and CA only issue permits to high profile people like movie stars or musicians. This means if you are a poor single parent living in a bad neighborhood the state has eliminated your ability to defend yourself based on their perception of your status. How much more elitist can you get? This is a fantastic decision that all should applaud.

The senate passing the gun control bill in front of them that bribes states with federal funding if they enact massively unconstitutional "Red Flag" laws is concerning. Also concerning is the "boyfriend loophole" measures. Which essentially say anyone you have dated can accuse you of domestic violence and get your 2nd amendment rights removed for up to 5 years. I'm torn about how to feel with such conflicting legal actions both being taken on the same day.
