Has anyone in here even been to a foriegn country and gone to a hospital or clinic?
Its the same wait time that you have here. Hell I went to the ER here in Sandy a year or so back and had to wait 3 hours.
For 99.9% of cases, the health care is the same...and you get it for FFFAARRR less money than we spend here in the US. If you can get past your disdain for all things liberal, go see Michael Moores movie "Sicko". He points out some staggering stats on how much we spend per capita on health-care here and how little we get. And for the 40 million people or so who have no insurance they get bupkus.
Other countries are doing it for far cheaper and getting similar care that you get here and everyone is covered.
I just had my son in the urgent care and it took us 5 hours! When we got there at 9am, the sign said 1 hr wait - 3 hours later and we were in one of the exam rooms waiting another 45 minutes for the dr to come see him. DR was concerned with me for just getting him in there (she felt he was on the verge of respiratory failure), so I had to let her know that I sat in her waiting room as long as I did.
I attribute high health care costs to high insurance (malpractice) costs - ie frivulous law suits.
US is also a capitalistic country, not socialist. That might all change in three weeks, though...
I agree it is insane how expensive it is and should be less, but I still don't want the government telling me that I have to pay for everyones (especailly the 40% or so that DO NOT pay taxes) coverage and what my coverage is - Medicare sucks!!!! I'll pay for mine, my wife's and my son, but the rest of the people need to pay their own. And when the time comes, I'll pay for my elderly parents.
With McCain as president, the number of jobs will increase. Most employeers already offer a company sponsored healthcare system of sorts. To me this is a much better deal. The ones without healthcare can go back to school and get a job that does have it.
...And I don't want to hear about those poor 40-60% that say they would if they had the opportunity. Opportunities are earned and sought for; not given. Bottom line you make your own opportunities.
My parents were divorced. My mother worked 3 jobs to keep a roof over our head and food on the table. Even then it wasn't enough, so she was also on welfare and received food stamps and subsidized housing. She definately could not pay for my schooling or my sister's. My sister is the president of the nursing association there in SLC and I have a bachelors degree. Kathleen's family also didn't help her, and she has a bachelors and a masters degree. Very bottom line, those 40-60% just have no motivation and/or are lazy.
