I had a set of Treadwrights and was happy enough with them, but when it was time to replace them I was able to find a brand-new set of Coopers for about the same price as the re-molded ones. I'm MUCH happier with the new tires, they run smoother and a whole lot quieter.

It may not be 100% linear, but you get what you pay for--a more expensive tire will be worth it in the long run.

I'm pretty cheap, but I won't buy cheaper tires than Cooper. I've got a set of 315/75r17 coopers on my Jeep. I paid $1450 for 5 tires shipped to my door from Discount.

I'm a huge fan of the ST MAXX, but they aint cheap
Mine have been good to me so far. I paid less than $200/ea for 255/80r17s, not too bad for decent tires I think.

I don't know anybody who hasn't liked the ATPs, I think those will replace the Duratracs on the wife's truck next summer.
