Off Road Design Report

I have scheduled some time in my buddies shop to install the cross over steering and the high steer kit on my Beater for Friday. I just wanted to start a thread that would have some positive feed back on some off road products. It seems that all we have had is bad news from the economy.

So far the parts that I had ordered from Off Road Design have been top notch. Both steering arms are machined beautifully, the tie rod ends are still in the package (unharmed), the steering box arm is painted and ready to go. From the time they were ordered to the time they were delivered was a fast turn around. I ordered them on December 23rd and received the parts on January 8th. Not bad considering the holidays that were thrown in that time frame. Not only that but, Off Road Design even gave me a set of directions. The owner Steven Watson went above and beyond on this order because he had to call me back on the 23rd so that he could hand out bonus checks to the employees and called me back after hours. They even had to custom measure all the lengths because I own a Dodge and they are Chevy experts. He went out and measured another rig that was a Dodge to get the measurement correct.

I will give an update on Friday or Saturday after I get the parts installed.

Okay, all the parts are installed and it went together flawlessly! I could not believe just how easy it was to install. The only modification that I had to do was I ended up shortening the tie rod half an inch on each side. I did this so that I could have some adjustment in it. I screwed the tie rod ends all the way down with the jam nuts installed and I was about a half inch too long. Now it would have worked if I had removed the jam nuts. But, I needed the jam nuts to make sure the tie rod would not move.

I even took it out for a little test run but the snow was way too deep. We have about 4 to 5 feet of the stuff and the top is hard enough but after you break through the crust it is just powder.

All in all this is a fantastic way to improve any stock Chevy or Dodge steering. I cannot believe that the OEM's could not figure this out to begin with.

I hear ya, I hear ya, I just thought that it would be a better use of space and time if I held out on the pictures for those who have truly unique pictures of where they have been for the Trip Reports. Those are the pictures that I really like to see. Give me a few days and I will see if I can take some and post them up for y'all.

What I was really wanting to do with this post was to bring some good news to the off road world. It seems like everywhere you look and read someone is having trouble with another company when it comes to parts and agreements. The folks at Rocklogic and Overkill Engenering, just to name a few. You know the saying that if something bad happens you tell ten, if something good happens you tell one. I just wanted to change those odds and give a good ol' pat on the back to the folks at Off Road Design.

They are certainly deserving of it. Stephen and his crew make excellent products, and they are all a nice bunch of people, too. They are committed to land use in at least CO, and I'm hoping to get them behind the UT struggle this year as well.

I took some pictures of the steering set up this morning. I had to use a different camera than I normally use so it make take me some time to figure out how to get them off of the camera and onto the computer. Hang in there they are on the way.

Okay, here are some pictures of the steering set up. There is a picture of the bracing that we did. We ended up boxing the frame where the steering box is and then we cut and welded in a triangular brace to further brace the steering box. I hope that y'all like them.
