SWEET!!!! I got to run the Crazy 8 trail with about 40 of my closest friends. :D (not really, but it was fun getting to meet new folk and renew acquaintances with old.) Sorry.....I have NO pictures, but there are some SWEET obstacles and optional lines. There was 'almost' some full body rig flop/rollover carnage a couple of times, but both were extracted unscathed. We had one rig with 33" tires in our group locked at both ends. Good driver and a great wheeler attitude. He had NUMEROUS clearance problems due too boulderage :D He had a great time, but used the strap/cable quite a bit (3 times that I know of and there's at least 3 other times he would have needed it). We chatted at the giveaway/dinner and it sounded like he wanted 60s to run some bigger tires. Seems like 35" tires are the minimum on this trail and bigger is better due to rock size (did I mention this is a fun trail?).

My Jeep drove off the trailer, to the trailhead, through the trail (took a winch once---FUNKY 6-7' vert wall that angles away from you :D) back to the event and back onto the trailer all by it's little self. :D :D :D Successful trip, IMHO, and exactly what I needed. The PowerJoke is SWEET to tow with compared to what I've towed with before. I got just under 14 mpg  towing on the way down (LOTS of traffic and speeds below 55-60 pretty much all of I-15 and then you're on the 65 mph highway......) On the way back I only got 11 mpg because the roads had less traffic.

Random Observations:

1)Craig Stumph and Dean Bulloch can DRIVE. Fun guys to spend an afternoon with.

2)Above persons rigs are SILLY capable on an 'everyday' trail----Craig brought his comp buggy and it looked bored, but I think he had a good time, Dean had an uberlow geared TJ on 39" Krawlers that was built nice and performed like you'd expect it to with Dean driving

3)I enjoy trails a LOT more when my junk isn't the broken one........I really don't mind helping other folk but HATE when I hold up the group

4) 5-6 psi in the SXs is about right and makes my Jeep go places in a manner I didn't expect (esp. with the lack of tread on one of the front tires----anybody got a 16.5 38 x 12.50 SX with some life in it?). The H1 wheels are awesome to have with the dual beadlock thing.

5) I heart rear spools.....

6)it's nice to not worry too much about breaking axle shafts (although, there are some spots you could break whatever you wanted too on this trail)

7)14 bolts can withstand TONS of punishment and not even whimper (Brett Davis-AKA Maverick had a rear tire jammed in a 'v' notch where it was getting about 4 contact patches worth of traction{sidewalls count, right?} and ultimately bound up pretty good. It looked like his rear spring and body were going to come off/apart, but the 14 bolt didn't seem to care a bit.

8)onboard welders are SWEET and quite useful

9)springovers are quite flexy--I'm pretty happy with my junk......now for some polish......

10)said 14 bolts are HUGE boat anchors

11)260 joints.....well, there's nothing other to say than they suck when paired with heavy Scrambler, a Chev V8 and 35" tires---{WAY Nice CJ8, though}

12)U4WDA had an AWESOME turnout so we had a LOT of rigs on the trail---but it was still fun with who was there

13)Hubs don't last long when they meet rocks as regularly as mine do.......They are tougher than I expected, though..... Time to buy some 'non-neckdown' Chev inners, I guess, and upgrade to the 35 spline drive slugs from Mt. Logan

RockReligious owes us some onboard welder tech. :D

BIG thanks to the Richfield club for hosting and I wanna see MORE trails similar to Crazy 8. AWESOME trail and perfect for the type of wheeling I like to do!

Ditto... I don't have the final numbers, but this was the U4WDA's biggest event ever. Nate and the Richfield crew were very organized and got in & out of the staging area quick  The police escorts at intersections helped ;)

More later...

I would be interested in the numbers, I was suprised when I showed up and the fairgrounds were packed with hundreds of rigs.

I would concider the convention an absolute success, I dont know who all the organizers were, but someone should list them, they deserve some props for sure.

Dinner was awesome..

Crazy 8 was a killer trail (killed my driveshaft, and stub shaft)thank god for spares and onboard welders.)

I would be curious to know the carnage report, at one time there were broken rigs the whole length of the trail at each obstackle.. all I know of is my rear shaft and front stub, someones elses fuel pump, brads birfield, another toy rear shaft, scrambler knucle joint, 5 or 6 shafts including a d60 on second to last obstackle and the trail leaders(Shawn) broken t-case on a borrowed sami/buggy.

amazine that we got 28 rigs out in time for supper.

bryson, I will chat with my welder/builder friends and see if I can get some tech. your rig did awesome, nice machine.

I just pulled apart my lockout hub on the drivers side. (I had an 'issue' climbing the last obstacle)........... BLOWN.......So chalk up a broken hub on that trail for me for the damage report.

I had an great time!

I cruised down with Kurt and Richard AKA 'Mary Poppins'... camped out on the grass of the fair grounds, watched the stars and listened to sirens and storage unit alarms all night....

saturday was a blast, i hit up a trail called 'The Twist'. i enjoyed it alot. it takes you along many ravine and wash bottoms that will twist your suspension and make those who don't have lockers add it to thier upcoming parts list. My rig is over built for this trail, but i loved it. steep hill climbs and decents, washes, awesome views... great trail... a huge thanks to the trail leaders of that trail. awesome guys to wheel with. I do have some incriminating pictures of Steve Jackson on this trail ride... stay tuned for pics... ;)

The dinner and raffle were great too... lots of cool prizes given away from flashlights, to firstaid kits(i got one), to alloy axle shafts, to a milemarker winch, and tons more stuff that should've been mine...

I suffered a severley dented rear driveline while messing around on the obsticle course at the fairgrounds... i made all of the obsticles except the big rock pile... i got up to the highest point i would make it up and sat on both my drivelines... the rear receiving the most punishment.... anyways, the drive home wasn't so bad as far as vibrations are concerned... 45-50mph, then at around 70-75mph was were i'd feel it it the most... the side affects as of right now, are the top bolt for the starter motor coming lose(fixed), and a hose on the fuel filter coming lose... still have to fix that one... other than that, the 4runner is amazing off road, and holds it's own on the highway. i used 1.5 tanks of gas to Richfield, trail ride, and back... gas leak included, all on the 37''s... not too bad in my opinion.

A big thanks to all those who helped out with this event... Daynene on the U4 board 'the money nazi' as i like to call her... it wouldn't have been what it was without you... and yes, i'll pay up... i'm good for it...

this was one of the funnest events I have been to in a long time!! We ran the dairy canyon, and it was a blast. 4 rated, some fun obsicles, and a ton of cool people. I think there were 30 rigs running with us. I puncured a hole in the sidewall of my tire, but fixed it on the trail with about 7 of thoes sticky puncture hole fixey things. It is still holding air today. Huge props to the ritchfield crew for putting on a GREAT event. If anyone ever wants to go wheeling down here again, Im in. If you diddent make it, you missed out big. I diddent win a jeep, (or anything for that matter), But I bought a cool T shirt. I hope the U4wda group knows how much we appreciate them, and lets do this again next year!!

Spencer.

Bryson, I owe you electrical tape. Whoops. Sorry.

Damage, damage everywhere. I was due for my short side, but ben's four link was a surprise. Lucky we were somewhere we could cut out.

Was great to put some faces with names.

It wasn't really making noise until we caught about two and half to three feet and slamed down the other side of the hill. I think that's when it made some new noises:confused:

Yeah, in my rear view the Scout looked like a whale breaching the surface... he caught some serious air....

you know... i think it was planned... Steve really wanted a napback at his hotel room.;)

PS.. my total damage thus far is as follows... one air hose from the york to the tank... one rock light(the one that melted a hole in the air hose to bedin with)... chipped paint after the tire bent some fenderage... rear driveline thrashed.... one door pin to my Marlin doors... top bolt to my starter motor falling out.... and i think my fuel filter has a huge hole in it... also, if it weren't for the rock sliders and BudBuilt crossmember/skid plate... i would've killed my truck!!!

It definitely wasn't me doing the smack-talking on the cb.

I damaged my front driveshaft doing some aeronautical maneuvers and had to spend the rest of the weekend in 2-wheel mode. I did play around in the hills above Richfield while waiting for everyone to get back from the trails.

Great time! Thanks to the Unlimited 4x4 guys and especially Nate Curtis for getting everything organized. Thanks to Daynene for keeping things moving. Thanks to everyone who attended and made this the biggest U4WDA event ever!

I did a lot of backroads driving, and small-town visitin' during the trip. On the way home, I took the Nebo Loop and cut across the Mona Pole road. Great trip!

We were on the Dairy run and had a ball. My son drove the TJ and did well for his first full trail. It was fun putting some faces with some names.

Here are some observations of things I didn't know before last weekend.

Rear corners on new Rubicon Unlimiteds dent just like older Jeeps

Marc can make it through a trail without breaking down

Some Central Utah locals can have the "Hold my beer and watch this" attitude without the beer

BC is an excellent bumper fabricator (well I kind of knew that)

Brett's Scrambler fenders can rip in half like paper

You can spend 8 hours installing a CB before a trail ride and never use
it

You can enjoy the passenger seat on a trail ride (but prolly not too many times)

A scenic dirt road can have 4 good obstacles in one section and some
loose dirt climbs and be rated a 4 trail

A good group of friends on afore mentioned trail can make a great trail
ride more fun (Beckie is always a riot)

Ian is a great fabricator and can do amazing things with a 55 gallon
drum

You don't get as much respect with a mildly built TJ as with a comp buggy

A/C is a luxury on a Jeep that I didn't know I wanted so badly

U4WDA draws a huge turnout for Summer Convention

U4WDA has a great raffle

Daynene Snyder works her butt off as do most of the smiling U4WDA
volunteers

and last but not least

From Richfield it's only 15 minutes longer to get to Moab than back to
my house.
