This morning two neighbors and myself decided to ride from just across the dam at Pineview up and over to North Ogden Pass. This pictures were taken from my Black Berry but the scenery was great. For some of you not familiar with the area, the water you see is Pine View.

It took us about 45 minutes to run. Next trip is to go across Ben Lomond into Mantua.

P9260063.JPGI decided to go give it a try so a neighbor and I parked at the lot at the top of North Ogden Pass and jumped on the trail across from the parking lot. Neither of us have taken the trail but we made it. The hardest part was the switch backs at the top where it was really rocky. We met some nice people a long the way including a professor at Utah State that was from Europe. He was riding a KTM 250. We saw nearly a dozen mountain goat, lots of chipmunks and nothing else. After driving into Mantua and topping off at the little store by the lake, we headed back on another route that dumped us on to the road that goes from Avon to Eden.

The government is doing a lot of work on the roads and trails and there were signs up all over stating that the canyon above Mantua will be closed from Monday - Thursday which includes the road up to Willard Peak.

A few more

The two pictures on the right there are some mountain goats just above the road in the middle. The water you see is Willard Bay.

Nice!! :D Looks like a lot of fun. I miss that area. I used to ride in and around Mantua every day.

I could have used you because getting back was a little harder. We wanted to try a different route home. We wound up finding the way over toward Avon and out the road to Eden. Come on up and lets go run it.

So did you end up going up the dugway to get to the Avon/Eden road? Or did you go another way? How hairy is the singletrack? I am getting to be a bit of a pansy these days. ;) If you can swing Friday morning I might be game (assuming there is not 2 feet of snow after this wednesday).

EDIT: this is one of the loops we used to ride almost weekly. It starts by going up the dugway.

I don't know if it was the dugway or not. It was a road that went to Camp Camorah and then at the sign we turned east and followed that until we had to go through a gate. It almost headed north east before it started heading south again. The single track was a little hairy on the switchbacks because it was steep and rocky. My neighbor struggled on some of them. There were two of them that I had to ride his up on. Lets see how much snow we get up there after the storm and then we can decide.

Still lots of snow up there. Tomorrow is out but Saturday morning may work. We are thinking about going from Mantua to Bear Lake. Hopefully by then the snow will be gone. Anyone want to join?

Ben Lomond Peak 2

We got up early to give it another shot and failed. Too much snow on top, the wind blew the snow which settled on the switchbacks near the top. Some places in the trees the trail was frozen and we had to get off to push the bikes up while still in gear. It was cold at first but actually turned out a little warmer by the time we were heading back. I have been asked if its a tuff trail. Its not too bad but its narrow.
