Oh how I hate Vista

I am done with this vista b.s.

Call me a fanboy if you like but all our office (save one) runs on Mac and I have no issues.

We have one pc running vista for accounting. This thing locks up twice a day. And that is no exaggeration.

So now the question. Where can I get a copy of oem XP for this pile of junk.

A lady in our office bought a new lap top not too long ago with Vista. After weeks of trying to load software we sent it back and got a lap top with XP. NO VISTA.

Runs pretty flawless on my wife's laptop, which didn't come with it pre-installed.

Could be incomparability with the accounting (or other) software causing the crashes.

Almost anywhere. I was at Target by South Towne Mall Monday night and they have XP Home for $99. Smiths Marketplace had it last time I was in the Electronics section. I would bet most PC stores would still have it till the run out.

Most places don't have the oem version ;) Those are retail copies you are seeing and, fwiw, XP Home sucks in an office environment.

We buy oem XP through www.zones.com, it runs about $150.

We've officially decided we will not support or offer Vista in our company until XP is no longer available. Too many incompatibility issues and the slowness is unbearable (we shouldn't have to tweak every machine that we order to get them to run half decent) even on a core 2 duo with 2GB of memory and a 7200 RPM drive.

I was going to switch from vista to xp the other night but I need to load a driver for the hard drive and it wants me to put the disk in the A:/ drive that doesn't exist on my laptop

The only software that is running on it is Quickbooks. It hasn't crashed while that is running yet. But when you leave it for 15-20 min, nothing open mind you, it will lock up. Can't force quit, cant do anything but hold the power button down.

Thanks for the heads ups on the low...cals... for the xp.

vista is very demanding, if your hardware is not designed for it do not upgrade it will run slow and could freeze due to driver issues.

Macs now are the same as PC hardware (apple=sell outs). Which means now a days you can do everything on a PC that you can a MAC. Except you can do more on a PC.....say gaming :p

I just read a test on lifehacker where he built a hackintosh for $800 and it tested very well.

I have been a mac user since the original Mac. I have had to use pc's over the years with work and nobody is going to convince me that a pc is better or even equal to the usability and stability of the mac os.

Now hardware is a different issue. I have my fair share of hard-drive and hardware problems. Same ratio on mac and pc's. That is just wear and tear.

I don't game, I do photo, design and video work and for those applications you can't compete with mac's.

That being said the Quickbooks software for Mac is y e a r s behind the pc version. So we use a pc for that. XP has had a few issues that we have had to resolve (networking and such) but has been basically stable. But Vista is a total terd.

I won't go into the nightmare this BRAND NEW computer has been. Needless to say if I had a choice I would not own it.
