Old Ford questions

I am looking to purchase an old Ford pickup for hunting. Unfortunately I don't know much about them. This truck is listed as a 1973 but, it has 1969 front clip metal on it. The cab, doors, and bed are correct with the frame. Pictures are below. What should I be aware of? What problems am I going to face? Is it worth the $600.00? Would I be better off with something else? Any other thoughts?

closed knuckle front end.

Watch for body mount rot. My dad had a '71, and the front clip would shift every so often and cut the radiator hose and light wiring with the fan. Also lost the steering wheel once, good times.

If it runs and is in good shape, and you like it, I guess $600 isn't bad for that.. Personally I'd get a newer Chevy, which are all over KSL up here, but that's me. :D

The truck does run and drives. 360 V-8 I think called an FE block or side oiler. Tires need to be replace but, still hold air. I have two other motors for it. One is an actual Police Interceptor motor that was running when I pulled it. From what I gather it has the divorced 205, Dana 44 front, Dana 60 rear, manual tranny, and a whole lot of crap inside and in the bed. The seat needs to be re-done and it is a little rough but not much body rot or even rust, other than the surface rust on the hood. Any other quirks about these models I need to be aware of?

I will check out KSL. It is a bit of a drive for me but, I guess I am in Utah often enough.

I had a 72 high boy back in the day, i beat the crap out of that truck and it always took it, ony thing i really ever had a problem with is when i blew the motor when i was driving it home from morgan, had the foot to the floor in 4th red lining the motor for about 15mins. (was a kid and stupid)
but rebuilt the bottom end and kept it for a few years then sucked some valves, replaced the heads and tryed for ever to sell it, couldnt get 1500 for it even with a new ish motor and wiring and lots of stuff done to it. still a good truck tho.

I would say maybe 500 for it.

Good point y'all./\ How do I tell if this is a hi-boy or a low-boy? I did offer $500.00 and the selling price was $800.00. He came down to $600.00 and I get to remove a car for him and I get to keep the money from the car. I think I would end up spending about $450.00 of my own money. Any other thoughts?

I would say its worth 500 or so....so with the scrap car you would probably be ok.

Ive got to ask tho...

Why not use the Beater (Ramcharger for those that dont know Rob) for hunting?? When you get the steering and suspension fixed it is going to be dead reliable and will go where ever you want....AND be very streetable.

The old Ford would be fine but it is OLD and is going to require a lot of upkeep and maintainance. I dont know if I would trust it out in the boonies hunting for a week

The beater is going to be killer, no doubt about that especially after Corey and Eric get done with their magic. The beater is getting a little high and the suspension a little soft to be carrying a full elk or two.

At first I was thinking about Rockwells and 44's, but, now I am thinking about just a 4" lift and some 37's. That would keep the truck low enough to actually be useful and more practical while hunting. I really like the looks of the old Fords add to that the super simple idea and I am liking it more and more.

Well, I bought it. I just struck the deal this morning. The fella was selling it to pay off some debt and I traded some of the debt for the truck. I get to unload the trash out of it. (Some of it may be useful) And I get to haul off the car. I get paid $100.00 a ton for the scrap metal. I figure that the car should be at least a ton so I will not end up spending as much for the truck as I first thought. After the beater is back from Idaho I will start work on the old Ford. What do y'all think I should name her?

Then it is settled. Betty the old Ford. Thanks. So, other than some body mounts is there any other quirks I need to be on the look out for?
