Ophir Hill Mine W/ CRUISEROUTFITTERS

I got the opportunity to join with the Cruiseroutfitters customer appreciation run, hosted by ExpeditionUtah.com group, led by some MojaveUnderground.com crew, in exploring the Ophir Hill Mine..

Copied from MojaveUnderground's website:

The Ophir Hill Mine was the last mine to operate in the Ophir District. It operated from 1865 to 1971, when it became hard to make a profit due to low mineral values. The Ophir Hill Mine was primarily a lead-zinc producer. It is in immaculate condition, full of artifacts, and makes for quite an adventure.

The main portal is a haulage tunnel, which extends straight back about 3000'. The Mojave Underground Mojave Mine Team has spend several hundred hours inside the mine, and they find more and more each time.

The Mine is currently owned by the Ault family. It is strongly gated and closely watched. Please do not attempt entering this mine without permission. The residents of the canyon have taken a lot of time to make the town a nice place to visit. Please respect their efforts. Entrance can be obtained by contacting the owners, or by contacting Mojave Underground and arranging for a tour.

This was so much fun, i can't even tell you. It was also a good reminder on how out of shape I am. However, I recommend getting involved with MojaveUnderground and the great work that they do to preserve this rarely experienced Utah attribute. What a great opportunity to see some of Utah's rish history up close and very personal.

Several RME'ers were in attendance including, but not limited to: Cruiseroutfit, Brain Passey, Paul R, Kiel (and the friend that wouldn't hold the dustpan for Kiel's g/f), skylinerider, Meat, Bodine, solidfrontaxle took a much needed nap in his cruiser(you can see his adventures of the weekend in a seperate thread about breaking in his new 80 series).. and there were more i'm just not remembering everyone..

On with some of my pics..

We all got one good laugh out of the Snickers bar not removing the taste of my foot...

It was funny though.. For those not there, picture you can see the pinhole of light several hundred feet in front of you..

SAMI: So what ever happened with that buddy of yours who refused to hold the dustpan?

Kiel: Ya, he's right behind me.

Friend: Heya

5-10 seconds of quiet pause...

SAMI: Wow, this is an akwardly long tunnel huh? :ugh:

OK this is freaky looking is he really there?

He's hard to see in that pic.. But yes, there is a guy walking sort of away from the shot. Left arm out stretched, wearing a lighter style camo jacket, blue jeans, and a black backpack.

... So many orbs :p

This is a very cool mine. Thank you to everyone who made the trip happen.

As cool as the pics are, cameras do not come close to capturing the awesome of being in the mine, especially when you have a string of headlamps winding off into the distance.

Here's some pics that Bodine took
