I'm really looking forward to all the hate that will ensue for not trading for the mj......anyways, anyone know if 98+ 4.0 intake and exhaust manifolds produce any power gains on pre 96 4.0's? I have a set sitting around and was curious if it was worth throwing on.

Would you be willing to share the owners info on the MJ.. I am sure that some of us would like a chance at it.. :)

The intake was tested by Jp mag IIRC and they said it was a wash. I think it's a better designed intake but it doesn't matter if you don't gain anything

I won't throw it on there. So there are actually two Mjs on ksl from the same guy even. Look in the rock crawler section of the auto parts and they are in there. Seems like a good deal, but I just can't bring myself to trade a running and driving xj for an mj that is six years older and i have no idea how it drives and it doesn't run.

I did this exact swap... Not worth it, just like the Nate said.

I think it's wise for you to stick with the free XJ that runs over an MJ that costs money and doesn't run.:)

Good choice, especially since the MJ is a pre 87. They look similar but are very different. You would have to plan on an engine/tranny swap in the MJ to be happy.

Well I sold my WJ setup and am now rethinking running stock axles because I have a buddy that will be selling his setup. They are a 30 with 4.56's and an auto locker, and a 8.25 with welded spiders. I think I'd eventually have to replace the carrier on the 8.25 with a Detroit or something not welded. Hoping I can even get the shafts out. I'd really like to find a Dana 44 and a 9" rear. At least that way I can start off with 4.10's. Should I grab the stockers while I can or wait for something bigger? I have a very small chance of having this thing wheelable for ejs.

The 30 with 4.56s is a decent axle, especially if it's a high pinion. I'm not a fan of welded gears, but if the price is right, it's a start.
