I've done it. And about a second later I thought "what the hell am I doing?" and yanked my arm right back inside.

I had a friend racing a Renault 4CV in a gymkhana put his hand out to stop a rollover and broke his arm in two places. Another friend grabbed the bottom of her seat in a Jeep CJ5 and although she didn't loose any fingers she pinched three that required surgery. The best defense is hug yourself in the fetal position.
