Paint question

I'm paint-tarded, so pardon me if this is a stupid question. So, today I cut out the body panels for my buggy. They are polycarbonate, so I can see through them to see cones and rocks and stuff. I want them to look blue, but I still want to be able to see though them. One option is to take them to a graphics place and have the perforated sticker stuff (like the advertising on bus windows) put on. Unfortunately, that stuff is not available in solid colors (except white), so I would have to pay them to print a color on it. Sounds like it would be really spendy (like prolly around $400 for both sides and the back). I don't really want to pay that much. Is there a paint that would make the panels look blue, but would still allow me to see through them? Like a blue tinted clear coat? Do they call that a pearl coat? Could I save a bunch of money by doing it that way? Anyone have any other ideas?

Just put a light coat of paint on the inside....Like we used to do on the RC car bodies. I think it is TK1 here that still paints RC's. Maybe he has some paint reccomendations. I know we used to just use thinned automotive type paint....

Is it possible to use that method, and get a nice uniform color, and still be able to see through it?

I had a couple bodies that a friend painted that looked cool and you could still see through it....sort of like a tinted window.

Experiment with some scrap pieces and some different paints.

You could get the poly in blue, it would be transparent.
You can get it in blue??? I didn't know that. Oh well, too late now. The body panels are cut out, so I need to find a way to make them blue.

Laird is cool.

next time, yeah, you can get blue plastic in sheets.

Might try some kind of tinted clear coat? I think my old neighbor did that to his motorcycle gas tank, looked pretty sweet.

I dont' know much about automotive paints though.

Do they have colors in poplycarbonate, or just plexiglass? Cus I don't want plexiglass, it will shatter and generally suck. Next time I'll be sure to ask about colors, this time I need to find out what kind of paint to use. I did save most of my scraps, so i can experiment a bit.

Ya, I bet you could pick up some import tuner rag and find some colored tint. I know it's out there. I'll see if I have a supplier for it--I bet I can find it in an installer supply catalogue that I can special order for you.
