Palm pilot help!!

I have a Tungsten T3 PDA that is starting to go south and would like some advice. I have Verizon and a cell phone that does not get much use and understand that you have to get a cell phone if you want a PDA. Palm has a Pixie or something like that but not sure. Any suggestions, I don't want a bunch of bells & whistles that cost a lot just a PDA and cell phone and seperate would be ok.

the palm pre is cool, but you'll pay more each month for a data plan. pretty convenient though if you ask me. (As I surf RME on my phone)

Ya, you're probably going to need to sign up for a data plan with whatever service provider you go with. Sprint has the Pixi and the Pre (both from Palm) and their data service is less expensive than Verizon. There are also a lot of other phones that aren't considered "smart" and therefor don't require a data plan, and will still do all of the functions you use on your Palm (calendar, contacts, notes etc)

Alternatively you could scour eBay for a used Palm pilot of some sort. I have a Dell Axiom that I have no use for, but it's pretty big compared to gadgets these days, outdated, and runs off of windows vs. palm OS.

This sounds like the best for me. Took a quick look online with no success. Any suggestions?

Honestly, head down to the local cell phone joint and play with a few. See which ones are easiest for YOU to work and have the features you want.

What features do you think are most important and/or do you use your palm for most?

I use the calendar, contacts, memos and tasks the most. Checked out a couple of places. Verizon wants an extra $30 per month but I can't get the reduced price phone until Nov. next year so would have to pay full price. Sprint was $15 per year extra. Have not checked AT&T.
I understand HP is buying out Palm to get them out of financial problems so wonder about the HP products which I understand are not too good but with the Palm OS they might be the answer at a later date.
PS: what year is your ZJ and is the GC club local?

If all you use is Calendar, contacts, memos etc then you don't need a really fancy phone with a data plan. The data plan is just for internet and email kilobyte usage. Even phones a step down from smart phones (smart phones = blackberries, iphones, palm phones, android phones) will have calendar, contacts, memos etc.

Being stuck in a contract for another 18 months makes things a lot more difficult, but I bet if you go down there and tell them you don't need to use any internet or data services and just want a single device to use as a phone that will also be easy to input calendar, contacts etc, they will have something for you. Lots of people are in your same boat.

As for my ZJ, my current ZJ is a 98, but I've had a 93 and 2 95's over the years. NAGCA is not a local club, but there are a lot of local ZJ/WJ guys here that are members of NAGCA. I'm hoping to put up some regional forums on NAGCA shortly to help people find other local grand owners.

Thanks, I will try the store route again and see what they say. I got screwed on data charges before and had them remove it from my phone.
I think I will look at the NAGCA site and join. My 95 has 150K but hate to get rid of it since we don't do much 4 wheeling now days. What do you think of the new bigger GC? Looks too big for good four wheeling, just a town car or as we used to say just a Hollywood Four Wheeler.

The new 2011 WK2 is based upon the Mercedes M class platform, so it is a little longer (5 inches) and designed much more for the road. It does lift 2.5" when in 4wd and the available 4wd options actually lock up pretty solid, but I personally wouldn't take it on more than basic dirt roads.

The WJ is just slightly bigger than a ZJ--and it is very slight. The WJ is solid axle and there is lots of support out there for them and they are inexpensive enough that you are starting to see WJ's on one tons and 37+ tires.

I'm not sure how the WK compares in size, but they seem to be about the same as a ZJ. Not a ton of upgrades available for the WK but there is a lift available from AEV and we had several WK's on 33's this year at Grand Slam West and they did Golden Spike without any problems.

I think a mildly lifted WK with the Hemi and some 32-33" tires would be a fun little rig for camping and backcountry exploring. It's not going to do any hardcore rockcrawling, but it would get you through some tougher terrain if you needed it to and ride pretty awesome at the same time.

Honestly, if I were going to buy a new jeep to use as a decent offroad rig that could also drive to and from the trail in comfort, it's hard to beat the JK's.

You could always get an Ipod Touch... then have whatever phone you need.. That's what my parents do.
