POLL: how much up-stuff do you have? how much droop?

yes, it seems like the trend of very little droop, but lots of stuff is the most desirable these days. Ian on "Xtreme 4X4" did that buggy with those new spring-less shocks and metioned that was the new trend too. it makes sense

I have mine set up for 8" up 6" down front and rear w/ 14" shocks. The reason people are going more up travel these days if for the higher speed stuff like ultra4 racing and stuff. If your only crawling you can get away with less up travel and more droop. Just one of those things that's all personal preference for what you're doing with your rig.

Interesting, i thought the trend was stuff as big of tires as possible with as low center of gravity as possible and generally that translated into more droop. That may just be a Jeep thing. My rig is setup with 4 inches up 8 inches down in the front, 5 inches up(should be 4) and 9 inches down in the rear.

That being said i have thought of modifying it a bit for more uptravel mostly so i can take it to the dunes and do alot more jumping and hit rough roads at speed.

Edit: This was measured at the shocks themselves.

Straight uptravel versus articulation will net you different numbers at the tire. I have 4" up and 8" or so down at the leaf springs.

Suspension travel can be overrated. Contact pressure with travel is were it's at. You can drop your wheel all you want, but if there is no pressure on the groud traction is lost.

This was the central idea behind the original Scorpion, which had an elegant equalization system that was meant to keep contact pressures close to the same. It wasn't JUST a bitchin' tube buggy. :D

I used to have mine set up with about 40% uptravel and 60% down travel. Npw the beater is set up with a 50% up and down. The 50% is better for faster travel wheeling.

hopefully with the addition of air bumps maybe someday my beast could handle some rough treatment at the dunes for now its probably not a good idea for me to leave the ground much. and my rig is certainly not cutting Edge by any means. just home built on a family mans budget. If not for issues with the old spine it might still have leaf springs. and I had massive wheel hop issues with the leafs. Caused to much breakage.

The only thing that would make this thread totally AWESOME is pictures of these rigs stuffing and dropping...

Here is what my old Commando does, I'll have to measure but it is somewhere at 5-6" up and 8" down at the shocks.
