- Location
- Never Far From Nowhere
Where: Pony Express Trail
When: Friday, August 10th - Sunday, August 12th
Friday: The first part of our journey we will be joining Steve (sixstringsteve) and the Rubicon Shakedown Run. We will meet at the Chevron out on Redwood Rd. and Lehi main (4 corners in Saratoga) at 6pm. From there we will caravan to 5 Mile Pass where if you would like, you can run the Rattlesnake trail. Those not running Rattlesnake (me) will head out on the Pony Express Trail to Simpson Springs and set up camp for the night ($5/campsite, 2 vehicles per site).
Saturday: We will depart Simpson Springs at 9am and continue west along the Pony Express Trail. This is a very mild trail, but it will likely be very dusty and has been known to eat up tires due to sharp rocks and the washboard. We will stop along the way at the various historical markers for the old Pony Express stations, Fish Springs National Wildlife Refuge, the Callao CCC camp, and Gold Hill. After Gold Hill you'll have the option to connect with Highway 93A and go north to Wendover and home via I-80, or you can head south to Ely and Great Basin National Park.
I am planning on heading south and camping Saturday night at Great Basin National Park along the Snake Creek Road.
Sunday (optional): If you plan to come to GBNP, the first part of Sunday will be spent hiking a bit in GBNP. Probably to Johnson Lake, or maybe visiting Lexington Arch. Then heading home in the afternoon/evening via US-50/I-15.
Who: Anyone who wants to come.
Attendees:
