Feel free to tag along:

What: Campout/exploration wheeling trip
When: Friday Nov 25-Sat Nov 26th
Where: Pony Express Trail to Little Sahara Sand Dunes (From Eagle Mountain to Little Sahara Sand Dunes)
Who: Anyone who wants to come who is courteous. This is the perfect noob event that doesn't require a modified vehicle. This is a family-friendly event. I'll probably have my little brothers with me. i don't care if you have a few beers at the campfire, but this won't be a rowdy party.
Vehicle Requirements: It really depends on the trail. ANY stock SUV/4x4 will be fine. We did it last year in a stock 4runner. If there's snow, it'll be a little challenging. If there's no snow, a honda civic could make it. There is no rock crawling on this trail, it's just a scenic dirt road with some cool history. My brother is taking his AWD car, and I'm sure he'll be fine. I think a subaru would make it just fine, unless the snow is a foot deep (not likely).

Schedule:

Friday Nov 25th (Black Friday):
Leave Eagle Mountain around 6 PM.
Frequent stops along the way to view the history of the area.
If there's light we can do some shooting out there
We plan on camping at simpson springs from the night. Cook your own dinner at the campsite.

Saturday Nov 26th:
Breakfast at simpson springs
Drive from simpson springs on out to little sahara
Lunch at little sahara
Games in the sand area at little sahara - whiffle ball baseball, frisby golf, ultimate, whatever else you can think of.
Saturday afternoon: head back home and stop off in Eureka on the way home

I still have to check with the BLM for legality of all routes, but this is my intengded route:

If you like to get out and enjoy nature, meet new people, and camp, come on out. It'll be a fun time for sure.

This'll be a great trip. For some reason I love camping in the desert when its cold. Somthing about those fridgid mornings around the campfire sipping tea or coffee that I just love.
I'll be in St. George that weekend, other wise I'd totally be there.

Hopefully I can make it. If I can't talk the wife into going it's going to be tough getting another weekend away after my hunting trip next week so I'll see what I can do.

Do you need anything from U4?

Thanks for the offer Jack, you're a good man. I'll get back to you. You're welcome to come yourself, along with any other U4 guys. In fact, I don't mind if you pass out literature while you're there. FYI, this is a camping trip, not an instruction day.

I'll hit you guys up regarding the legality of our route.

I appreciate the support. Feel free to invite people.

link to map added to post #1.

The route we will be taking is 82 miles of dirt road, plus more on the asphalt. It's about 5 hours of driving on the dirt road. About 2 hours on Friday night, and 3 hours on Saturday morning.

It gets dark at around 5:20 that weekend, how much time would there be for shooting on Saturday? And does this require driving through Utah county on black Friday?

not sure how much time we'd have for shooting. I just kinda wing it as I go. If nobody wants to shoot, then we'll go straight to the dunes. If everyone wants to shoot, we can make time for it. I figure we'll shoot for 30 min or so.

It requires driving INTO Utah County on Black Friday, but not through it. THe trail begins a few miles from the snakes parking lot, so depending on your route, you may or may not have to take 1-15 to Lehi Main st.

Sounds like a great time! I was planning on heading to the swell with my family, but I may have to reconsider. I know my daughter would love to play on a sand dune  Thanks for the offer I'll let you know.
